Tappan is a Project Specialist in the Tools, Reporting, and Analysis for Climate Initiative. He supports the creation of a strategy for open energy data as part of the "Global Energy Data Commons" project, including outreach and engagement with energy researchers on the project. Prior to joining WRI, Tappan worked on anti-corruption projects in Europe and Eurasia with the Center for International Private Enterprise, supported program development and grassroots campaigns with Environment America, and conducted media monitoring with the American Wind Energy Association. Tappan holds an MA in International Development from American University and a BA in Festival and Event Management from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Emily is a Deputy Program Director for the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition. Her primary role is to work across all departments to plan and execute all events that the organization puts on around the country which educate the American people and policymakers on the strategic importance of U.S. development and diplomacy programs. In her own words, her role is to drive the event planning process forward internally, frame each program, secure speakers, write remarks and briefing memos, oversee all event logistics - including venue and vendor relationships - and handle the run-of-show on event day. Emily received her BA from SIS in National Security and U.S. Foreign Policy.

Ian is an international development and international relations professional with over five years of experience, including an extensive background in professional and amateur sport. Mr. Evans is a current Program Associate for the Sports, Cultural and Youth programs at FHI 360. His team acts as the implementing partner for the U.S. Department of State Sports Visitor and Sports Envoy program as well as the Study of the U.S. Institutes (SUSI) for Student Leaders Europe program. Mr. Evans facilitates logistics for international exchange programs, manages program databases and creates data visualizations. He works closely with U.S. and international non-elite youth athletes. His passion and area of focus consists of utilizing youth sports as a vehicle to promote intercultural relationships and communication.

Katherine is a Monitoring and Evaluation Associate with PYXERA Global. In this capacity, she supports the organization’s Global Pro Bono practice area. Previously, Katherine worked at the U.S. Department of Agriculture where her focus areas included rural development and utilities, women in agriculture as well as faith-based and neighborhood partnerships. From 2011-2013, she served with the Peace Corps in Ukraine as a TEFL Volunteer and USAID Small Project Assistance Program Specialist. She is proficient in Russian and Portuguese. Katherine received her MA from SIS in 2017.

PYXERA Global

Jess is a Senior Program Coordinator at PYXERA Global—a non-profit that brings the social, private, and public sectors together to solve global challenges. She is very excited to host a student for this year’s Job Shadow Program! Jess is passionate about social justice and social impact work, which is what brought her to PYXERA. She currently works with agriculture, education, and entrepreneurial development programs in Nigeria, India, Belarus, Ghana, and Ethiopia. Her interest in this sector stem from growing up primarily in Sub-Saharan Africa, "where I saw both good and bad development projects. I love that I am able to use my AU Masters degree in IPCR to ensure that the projects I work on are community-driven and owned, sustainable, and align with the strategic goals of funders." Jess received her MA from SIS in 2018.

Noorullah is the Senior MEAL Officer for Islamic Relief USA where he leads the Monitoring and Evaluation efforts in the U.S. and international programs in Africa, Asia, MENA and Eastern Europe. He has over 10 years of project management experience in governance, community development, livelihood, capacity building and economic development sectors. His prior experiences also include working for the United Nations Development Program in Afghanistan, the World Bank Group, USAID contractors and international NGOs in D.C. and abroad. Noorullah has an MA in International Development from SIS, and an MA in Public Policy from Korean Development Institute of Public Policy in South Korea.

Elinor (Elle) is the Program Coordinator for the Scholars and Academic Relations Office at the Wilson Center. She manages the Center’s two internship programs, and serves as the Responsible Officer for international scholars’ visas. Elle started at the Wilson Center as an intern herself for both the Scholars and Academic Relations Office and Kennan Institute, and is inspired every day by the incredible talent found in the Wilson Center’s intern cohort. Prior to joining the Center, Elle worked in two U.S. embassies and Baltimore County Public Schools. Elle studied Russian and Eurasian Studies with a minor in Conflict Analysis and Resolution at George Mason University. *Students who shadow Elle will have the opportunity to meet with current SIS interns and scholars at the center.

Marian is a Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Specialist at the International Republican Institute (IRI). She has worked at IRI for four years, beginning as a Program Associate for IRI’s Morocco and West Bank-Gaza programs. Marian also serves as a co-chair of IRI’s Political Inclusion Community of Practice. Her focus is on inclusive MEL, and she is particularly interested in using participatory methods to engage with marginalized groups and ensure IRI’s programs match their needs and priorities. Marian holds an MA in Peace and Conflict Management Studies from the University of Haifa, in Haifa, Israel, and a BA in International Affairs and Humanities from the University of Colorado at Boulder. From 2013-2015, Marian lived and taught English in Amman, Jordan. She has traveled throughout the Middle East and speaks conversational Arabic and French. In her free time, Marian loves rock climbing, reading and wandering around DC with her Aussie-Husky mix. *Students who shadow Marian will have the opportunity to meet with SIS alumni also at IRI.

Flynn is an associate consultant in our DC office focusing on Congressional affairs and tracking and assessing the effects of policy and regulatory actions for clients in areas such as trade, infrastructure, environment and energy. Before starting at APCO, he interned and worked on Capitol Hill with Senator Richard Burr (R-NC). Flynn graduated from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill with a double major in American History and Global Studies focused on Latin America and International Politics. He received his MA from SIS in 2018.

Scott is Vice President for Programs at the International Republican Institute. His interests include resilience in conflict and post-conflict environments, countering hostile foreign state and non-state actors, cutting-edge approaches to improving participatory governance and supporting democratic values. Mastic led IRI’s election observation missions for Tunisia’s historic presidential and parliamentary elections held in 2014. He has also been an election observer on missions to Afghanistan, Egypt, Honduras, Jordan, Macedonia, Moldova, Pakistan, Tunisia, Timor-Leste, Ukraine and the West Bank/Gaza. Prior to joining IRI, Mastic worked in the State Legislature of Ohio first as an aide to State Representative Pat Tiberi and later serving the chairs of the Ohio Senate Finance and Economic Development committees. *Students who shadow Scott will have the opportunity to meet with SIS alumni also at IRI.

Kritika is a program specialist at Creative Associates, an international development contractor. She is currently providing HQ support to a development and stabilization project in Syria, aimed at increasing the capacity of the local police to provide security in line community priorities. With a BA in Sociology and MA in international peace and conflict resolution, Kritika is starting off in the field of development due to her interest in developmental political economy and its approach to post-conflict transitions. At Creative, she works in program implementation, financial tracking, budgeting, reporting, and compliance with both corporate and client expectations, ensuring that the field team is able to smoothly implement the program in Syria. Previously, Kritika has worked at the United States Institute for Peace, the International Peace and Security Institute, various local organizations in India, as well as the ASAC within American University.
