Professional Setup

Attention to your instrument to make it fully playable to your specification. I understand it is you that plays the instrument so the action must be suitable for your playing style and individual to your guitar. A full set-up includes the following:

Fret leveling

Attention to the quality and integrity of the frets, dressing and re-crowning and finally polishing.

Nut height adjustment

It's amazing how many playing issues are related to the nut being worn or mal-adjusted. I attend to adjusting, repairing and replacement of your nut.

Saddle set-up, height and intonation

I check the string height or "action" for each string and ensure it corresponds to the radius of the neck.

Truss rod adjustment

The truss rod status will be checked for correct operation as to perform at its best your guitar must have a correctly set relief in the neck, a slight bow. This will be adjusted accordingly.

Floating bridge adjustment

If your guitar has a floating bridge, this will also be attended to according to your individual style. whether a relaxed tremolo, or set like hard tailed bridge.

Re-fretting

If your frets are worn and need replacing you may need a total or part re-fret. You may wish to change your fret size or metal type. Either way, attention to your frets will change the playability of your guitar.

All fret sizes and types are available and a re-fret will always include a professional set-up.

Shielding

Interference can be an audible pain when recording and playing live. Lining the cavities within your guitar body with copper or shielding paint prevents those awful signals. This service checks, replaces and provides the lining and grounding required.

Refurbishments and Repairs

Upgrades, part replacements, body repairs and instruments back from the dead! All this work is challenging and different but so rewarding! Contact me for a full and free assessment of the instrument to get a full report of the work required with an estimate of the costs involved.

In all cases I will look at the stability of the finish to include the lacquer, stain, oil etc.
