Welcome to Microbiology laboratory

The microbiology laboratory identifies metabolic targets of geriatric chronic inflammatory diseases. We also investigate the molecular mechanisms of action of phytomedicinal compounds on the disease treatment by using in vitro/in vivo models. To develop functional biomaterials, we screen and characterise the bioactive components through the development of subtropical biological resources and fermentation of probiotics.

Discovering biomaterials derived from Jeju's native biological resources

1) Searching for functional dietary ingredients with activities against degenerative diseases (anti-cancer, anti-aging, inhibition of chronic inflammation) by utilizing Jeju's subtropical biological resources

2) Exploring functional materials utilizing surplus agricultural products from Jeju Island, and discovering new active substances and developing them into pharmaceutical materials
