The Jamaica Middle East Diaspora (JMED) initiative was started in August 2016, tasked with the objective to contribute to the continued development of Jamaica by working collaboratively with Jamaicans and friends of Jamaica living at home and abroad. This initiative was anchored in the nine key priority areas emanated from the 2013 diaspora conference in Jamaica. JMED hosts several professionals who are either of Jamaican heritage or others who are affectionately considered as “friends of Jamaica”. These professionals reside across the Arab states of the Persian Gulf, namely Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates. These nations are part of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). The professional experience of the members of JMED envelopes a wide variety of disciplines ranging from engineering, aviation, medicine to education across the sectors.
The JMED has grown very strong in a short time frame and all individuals share the common bond of, and deep affection for, Jamaica. Therefore, as the members serve in their capacities supporting and building other countries with their expertise they also feel the need to invest in Jamaica in a multidisciplinary way. In support of the implementation of past and current initiative JMED continues to partner with the other active Diasporas, namely US and UK based groups. JMED has also started strategic partnership with other countries with a bid to impact on the global platform. JMED continues to build Brand Jamaica through sustainable approaches that supports present and future development.
