Paranoid 01 is the first piece of the Paranoid set from the Self Portrait series. The work expresses the first stanza of the poem Self Portrait:
"Paranoid: Contemplating collapse;
Our lapse into psychological traps."
The work utilizes the contrast between texture and surface finish to reflect the tension between the rational self and the emotional self. The black, tar-like finish and texture express the persistent, dark thoughts of paranoia and worry.
