Awestruck 01 is the first piece of the Awestruck set from the Self Portrait series. The work expresses the second stanza of the poem Self Portrait:
"Awestruck: Reeling, the grotesque beauty of the world unfurls in kaleidoscopic swirls."
The work utilizes the contrast between texture, colour and surface finish to reflect the tension between the rational self and the emotional self. The flashes of magenta express the explosiveness of intense awe.
