Several PhD positions are available under the supervision of Dr. Jinwoo Kim in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at Hanyang University, Korea. The candidates will work with Dr. Kim, focusing on AI applications for human-centered construction and infrastructure systems.
Preferred Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in Engineering (Civil, Construction, Industrial, Electrical & Electronic, Mechanical, etc.), Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field
Proactive, flexible, and responsible personalities
Strong interests in one or more of the following areas: Digital Construction, Human Safety & Health, Artificial Intelligence, Machine/Deep Learning, and Computer Vision
Intermediate or excellent computer programming skills for one of Python, C/C++, and MATLAB; and/or Simulation (e.g., System Dynamics, Discrete Event Simulation, and Agent-Based Modeling)
Fluency in academic and technical communication (oral and written)
Satisfy admission requirements of Hanyang University

We invite exceptional applicants to apply for a Postdoctoral Fellow position in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at Hanyang University, Korea. The successful candidates will work with Dr. Jinwoo Kim to design, implement, and lead research in the broad area of construction digitalization and robotics. The appointment period is initially one year with the possibility to extend to two years. The annual salary will be determined based on the applicant's experience and HYU's guideline.
Requirements:
PhD in Engineering, Statistics, Computer Science or a related analytical field
Demonstrated ability to lead, execute, and manage research projects independently
Excellent computer programming skills for one of Python, C/C++, and MATLAB; and/or Simulation (e.g., System Dynamics, Discrete Event Simulation, and Agent-Based Modeling)
A strong publication record in top-tier journals and conferences
Fluency in academic and technical communication (oral and written)
Solid foundation and experience in one or more of the following areas: Construction Digitalization/Robotics, Human Behaviors, Computer Vision, Wearable Sensing, Deep Reinforcement Learning, and Complex Systems Modeling
Expectations:
Design, develop, and re-envision aspects of construction digitalization and/or robotics
Conduct theoretical and practical research on monitoring, modeling, and predicting human psychophysiological responses and behaviors; and measuring, quantifying, and analyzing the complex relationships between human factors and construction performances
Work on research grant proposals with Dr. Kim
Publish research findings in top-tier journals and conferences
Mentor MS/PhD students and supervise undergraduate students
Collaborate with internal and external academic groups, such as other HYU/international research groups, industry partners, and others
Proactively contribute to all aspects of research, teaching, and service
Support course/curriculum development efforts
