MISE is a combination of a smart kitchen mobile app and beacons. MISE focuses on interaction with people for a better cooking experience. The purpose of this project is to investigate and demonstrate the feasibility and use of location-based notification and voice interaction in a task-oriented, hands-free scenario with a beacon.
The concept of the MISE App is to provide appropriate notifications to users in a particular situation. To guide proper kitchen activity, it would provide constant communication with the user while in the kitchen area. We imagine MISE would be able to help a user to recall where they are in the process of a recipe, where sometimes users are easily getting lost and can additionally offer learning experiences for the user. The proposed concept uses several features to realize the ideal: location-based notification, working as a team, keeping track of progress with voice interaction, interoperability with other apps, and flexible beacon location.
The application enables users to get information and explore a recipe without the burden of physical contact with technology such as touching a screen. This paradigm is more natural, proactive, direct, easy-to-learn, and pleasurable than other conventional interaction. The main tasks of the app are (1) providing appropriate notification according to the user’s location, (2) reading out loud the cooking instructions step-by-step with voice command, and (3) recommending appropriate suggestions during cooking.
