Jim's Books, Inc. is now collecting children's board books for the St. Joseph's Society in Elizabeth, N.J.
The following people are board members of Jim's Books, Inc. a 501C3 charity registered with the state of New Jersey.
Amelia Nagle, President of the Board.
Amy began Jim's Books after mourning the loss of her son Jim in April 2020. Jim was an aspiring Language Arts teacher who loved books, Amy is a school library media specialist in New Jersey for children in grades 7-12. She also worked as an elementary school librarian and a public librarian. Amy hopes that Jim's Books will encourage literacy for children by providing books to underserved communities.
Dr. Cheryl Conrad DoBroka, Board Member.
Dr. DoBroka, Professor Emeritus, Capital University, enjoyed a 35 year teaching career as an English Educator that spanned both public and private institutions, from The Ohio State University to her retirement with Capital University. Her passion for introducing her Teacher Education students to the breadth of applied English Language Arts and service to the community in during and after school programming has been recognized and awarded. Dr. DoBroka’s Teacher Education students at Capital University served the Columbus, Ohio community for over two decades, in writing and delivering quality during- and after-school literacy encounters. Her life intersected the life of Jim Nagle at Capital University’s post-degree licensure program for English Language Arts, with a shared passion for teaching literacy through providing thoughtful, guided encounters with high interest books. In after-school settings, Jim was a “natural” with children and youth — they loved his “man” ponytail and his skateboard and his laid-back way of telling stories that invited them to listen and question. He had a keen sense of when to push for participation, as well as when to back off and address the real life issues kids were facing. As Jim embodied kindness and goodness, kids opened up to him and he saw how his weekly visits with books made a difference. It is a privilege to continue Jim’s legacy by once again offering books to young people, in his honor and — I believe this to be true — with his blessing.
Eileen Denton has a Bachelor's in Education from Georgia State University and a Masters in Library and Information Science from Clarion University. She was an educator teaching grades Pre-K through fifth grade for more than ten years before changing careers to public librarianship. Eileen is currently the Youth Services Librarian at a public library in Lafayette Hill, PA. The highlight of every family gathering was being able to have a conversation with Jim. Sharing a love of reading and the desire to have a positive impact on the lives of young people is something both Eileen and Jim had in common. It is an honor to be able to continue this work on his behalf.
Chad Thatcher, Board Member.
Chad Thatcher holds a Bachelor of Science in Adolescent Education from Miami University, Ohio and a Master of Reading Instruction from Miami University. Over his teaching career, he has taught multiple grade levels, but his recent focus has been on expanding access to college-level coursework for high school students, particularly those from underserved backgrounds. For the past eight years, he has led efforts to grow the CCP program at Whitehall-Yearling, OH, driven by the belief that college should be available to all students regardless of economic circumstances. Chad was fortunate enough to have Jim as his student teacher. I always tell my student teachers that real teachers are born, not made. Jim was born to be a teacher, he had that spark. Jim had a special talent for connecting with the students. He flourished in my classroom, helping my students learn and grow. Jim legacy lives on in spreading literacy to others.

Matt Foster is an Engineering Physics Major who graduated from The Ohio State University and is currently working as an Electrical Engineer at Creative Micro Systems in Vermont. It was at OSU that he met Jim via the ski team. The two hit it off when they carpooled to Mad River Mountain for night skiing and became close friends afterwards. From my first meeting with Jim he was always empathetic and very interested in what you had to say, two traits that made him an excellent friend and teacher. His “serious goofball” energy was infectious and it’s a trait I hope to bring to this charity. As an avid reader and life long learner I’m honored to carry my friend’s legacy through Jim’s books."
Kathleen Nagle is Jim's sister and graduated from Rutgers University in 2019 with a major in Human Resources Management and minor in Social Justice. She is currently working as a Talent Acquisition Specialist for Ivory Systems in New Jersey. Jim and Kathleen were extremely close and loved spending time with each other, all throughout their childhood and into adulthood. They would play the same sports growing up, work at the same places, and enjoy the same hobbies and activities. Jim was an incredible brother to Kathleen, was highly emotionally intelligent, loving, and supportive to her, and helped her gain the strength that she has now, to be able to continue on without him. Kathleen is honored to be the Vice President of Jim's Books and is looking forward to using her experience working for other charities to help progress the mission forward and help as many people and children as possible.
