"The way research typically proceeds is that we have a phase where we establish that certain techniques have value. Then there is a phase of looking as deep as possible into those techniques, no pun intended. And that establishes how they should be used, their limitations and so forth. Once that’s done, those techniques become tools in our toolbox. Then we can move to the next phase of the cycle, with a new set of techniques that we’re going to push as far as we can go, and again become standard tools."
