Time for more of my stories.
There was snake named Kaliya living in the river of Yamuna. People were scared of going near the river because they could die by poisonous water. My mother Yashoda used to tell me, "Do not go near the Yamuna river." I was a child who liked to get in trouble so I was wondering why she said not to go there.
After some time, I forgot about what my mother told me. Me and my friends were playing ball because we were bored. Suddenly one of my friends mentioned to go play near the river. I was really happy to play near the river. All of my friends got scared and did not want to go near the river.
I said, “Let’s go. It will be fun and nothing will happen.”
One of my friends said, “No, Krishna, you do not know in that lake there is a poisonous snake named Kaliya in the water.”
I said, “It is not going to do anything to us.”
My Friends said, “There were people who die when they fell down in the river.”
I said, “Don’t worry. I will protect you all.”
They started thinking that if it’s me then they will be protected. We all started walking towards the Yamuna river. Once we arrived at the river we started playing ball. We were throwing the ball at each other and it went into the river. The only way to resume our game was to get that ball.
I said, “Why don’t I go get the ball from the river?”
My friends said, “No, do not go in the water you can die.”
Knowing me, I didn’t pay attention to what people said to me and did whatever I want. So I jumped in the water and everyone got scared except me.
All of my friends got scared and they ran back to the village to let them know that I jumped in the Yamuna river. They brought so many people to the river. They could not do anything otherwise they would have died. Everyone started yelling my name "Krishna!" but I was already in the water and I had to take care of this snake Kaliya.
The water was black, hard to see, and tasted weird. I did not like the water and because of this snake I was not able to have fun with my friends. I landed at the bottom of the river where I saw the snakes everywhere. It was like they made this river as their home and were not planning to leave from there.
From what I think those snakes would be shocked that I could stay in the poisonous water for so long. I started walking toward their king named Kaliya who was big and huge with many faces and all of the snake worshiped him.
I said, “Mr. Kaliya, would you mind leaving this Yamuna river so people of my village can use the water and me and my friends can play without worrying about poisonous water?”
Kaliya said, “Who are you to tell me what to do?”
I said, “My name is Krishna. I don’t want people of my village to die or get scared coming to the Yamuna river.”
Kaliya said, “I am not leaving. This is my home.”
I said, “Do not make me force you to leave.”
Kaliya got angry and since he figured it out that poison does not work on me he started using brute force. As I was getting squeezed by his strength, I realized that his strength did not affect me. I felt like I needed to be as big as Kaliya and I became giant. I jumped on his head. After he could not hold me with his strength, I started dancing and playing my flute because I really like to dance and play flute. Kaliya could not handle my weight and blood started coming out of his mouth.
The wives of Kaliya saw him dying by my hands. The wives came and said, “Please, our husband deserves a second chance and we will do whatever you ask us to do.”
I said, “Leave this place and never come back here again.”
The wives said, “We will leave this place but can you guide us where to go so that we would not trouble other people? We will leave right now.”
I said, “Ramanaka Dwipa the is river you can go to and live there.”
I said to Kaliya, “Before you leave make this water clean and purified and take me up and I will get off your head.”
Kaliya said, “As you wish.”
I came out of river while dancing and playing flute on his head with less weight so he would not die. Everyone that was near the Yamuna river was shocked. They saw water clearing up and Kaliya leaving the Yamuna river and everyone was happy.
I started playing the game with my friends again. I knew that once I went home my mother Yashoda probably received news some way or another that I jumped in the river. I was going to get in trouble for not listening to what my mother told me.
Author Note:
Krishna is still a little child who likes to be mischievous and forgets things after hearing once. He does not know the type of super power he has that normal people do not. He has more knowledge than normal people around his age and he would do something completely different from others. His friends were able to depend on him because he would not let anything happen to anyone. That made him more trustworthy than any other people. He continues to behave like that whenever there is something that normal people cannot do. He does it like it was really easy for him. From the original story I left the Krishna character the same and made it like a story where they are having a conversation. It shows what they were thinking and it makes the story more interesting. Also I added some more detail about villagers coming to river and trying to help bring Krishna out of the water. Yashoda was a normal human being who did not know that her son had powers so she told him what he should do and what he should not. She will scold Krishna whenever he does dangerous things without thinking of the consequences.
