An issue that Cindy Sherman expresses in her plandids is the concept of self-identity. While she claims in most of her pieces that her works are not self-portraits, I do feel that it can be argued that some of them actually are. Cindy discussed how pretty much all of her portraits of people are based on photographs of her; they are just heavily edited or she puts on a lot of make-up or props to disguise herself.Â
When it comes to taking photographs, I personally prefer taking candids or plandids, and I certainly enjoy viewing this style of photos that others take themselves. I feel as though it provides the opportunity to express the genuine mood of the situation, and almost allows one to share that emotion of the situation that the photograph holds.
