"Jamaica Hill Community Association Revived and Active Again
Dear friends,
For more than fifty years, the Jamaica Hill Community Association has been part of the civic fabric of this neighborhood. After a period of inactivity, I am pleased to share that the Association has been revived and is once again organizing, advocating, and bringing neighbors together around the issues that matter most locally.
Since September, new leadership has stepped forward and the Association has already been active in engaging residents, working with city agencies, and organizing community initiatives that reflect the needs and diversity of Jamaica Hills. I wanted to be sure residents were aware of this renewed effort and had an opportunity to reconnect with a long-standing neighborhood institution.
In September 2025, the Association formally resumed operations and elected a new leadership team:
Saaif Alam, President
Mohammed Delwar Islam, Vice President
Bhitiahara Martha Fulton, Chief Advisor
Fifi Asefa, Interim Treasurer
Swati Chakraborty, Interim Corresponding Secretary
Since its revival, the Association has already undertaken a number of activities, including testimony before the New York City Council Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure regarding sidewalk damage caused by tree roots, a community walkthrough with residents and business owners alongside representatives from the Queens Borough President's Office, Council Member James Gennaro's Office, the Department of Transportation, and the Department of Sanitation, and outreach efforts to educate voters about recent ballot proposals.
