TRANSFORMING INTO A COMMUNITY SCHOOL

John Glenn High School and Southeast Academy, together, are one of the 15 schools that has partnered with the Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) for the Community Schools Initiative. The Community Schools model is a strategy aimed at disrupting poverty and addressing longstanding inequities. The approach highlights areas of need and leverages community resources so students are healthy, prepared for college and ready to succeed in the workplace and in civic life. The Community Schools Initiative is a model that collaborates with community agencies to best allocate resources to provide an integrated focus on academics, health and social services, youth and community development, and community engagement. Community Schools' staff are here to support improved student learning, stronger families, and healthier communities.

In addition, Community Schools' staff want to ensure that ALL students have what they need to succeed. We acknowledge that students cannot learn unless their basic needs are met first. Therefore, as we transform into a Community School, one of our goals is to share resources and services that are available to you in your community. If you need further assistance or have unique circumstances that may be impacting your student's overall well-being, you may complete a referral and our Community Schools staff will reach out to you.
