Since 2014 I have been teaching students how to express themselves creatively. Working with kids is a passion of mine, I love helping them get their thoughts onto a page. I use a multitude of differnt teaching methods and programs to pull the best out of each child I work with. I have taught grades K-8 at schools in New Jersey and New York City.
During the 2020 & 2021 pandemic, many children struggled with ways to fill their time inside. I started to offer private art lessons via Google Meet. I taught kids all different ways to create through distance learning. We painted, drew, and even learned digital illustration!
In 2018 I worked with grades 3-8 to create posters inspired by Shepard Fairey. As a class we thought of prominent African Americans throughout history, and how they helped shape the world today. We selected former president Barack Obama, Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, Billie Holiday, Oprah, Langston Hughes, Misty Copeland and Josephine Baker. The students each received a piece of a portrait I pre-sketched. Students mixed acrylic paints to create shades and tints to paint in their section of their image. Then as a class we assembled the full portrait, laminated it, and displayed it for the school's annual art show. A few students even did extensive research to write a short biography on the people we selected to portray.
In 2017 my art history class was studying the Renaissance. The class was broken into groups and assigned a famous portrait. Their assignment was to recreate this portrait as best they could. They had a few days to complete this assignment by bringing in props and costumes, learning digital editing software and doing some research on their paintings. Their final images came out amazing!
Here is a collection of general art that I have helped students create throughout the years. There are watercolor and acrylic paintings, clay sculptures, graphite and charcoal drawings, spray paintings, oil pastel drawings and digital works displayed in this collection.
