PhD level
Research opportunity: I am supervising thesis writing at the PhD level. If you are interested in my supervision, please send your (1) CV, (2) postgraduate GPA, (3) publication or any research projects you have done, (4) research proposal, and (5) proof of your English ability to fanzhang@must.edu.mo.
Reference rule: I can provide reference for those who have finished at least one completed project with me. For CFA candidates to apply for the charter, I need to well know you for at least two years.
Research opportunity: The supervision for the dissertation at the Master level is also provided, with a prerequisite that English reading is compulsory. If you are interested in my supervision, please send your (1) CV, (2) postgraduate GPA prior to the dissertation start ( Important: Do not send me your undergraduate grades! Unless you just finished the undergraduate level and have no postgraduate transcript. In that case, please refer to the following requirement for the undergraduate level), and (3) proof of your English ability to fanzhang@must.edu.mo.
Reference rule: Currently, I can only provide reference for those who pursue the PhD-level study and have finished at least one completed research project with me. This means that my reference cannot be provided for those who need recommendations outside of academia and had no research project with me. The only exception is for CFA candidates to apply for the charter; in this case, I need to well know you for at least two years.
Typically, I do not offer formal research positions to undergraduate students. However, for undergraduates who are genuinely passionate about academic research and wish to participate in a research project under my supervision, the following criteria must be met:
Your cumulative GPA should be at least 3.5; or
You must demonstrate exceptional research capabilities (e.g., proficiency in data collection or relevant software, supported by evidence such as certificates or completed project deliverables) and strong research aptitude (e.g., proof of English proficiency for academic reading/writing, or a fully completed literature review).
For students who meet the above criteria and have successfully completed at least one research project with me, I will provide a letter of reference unconditionally. For all other cases, the formal process for requesting a reference from me is as follows:
Submit your CV, with a clear note of your grade in my course(s) and your overall cumulative GPA.
If your academic or career goals align with my teaching or research areas, I will invite you to a brief meeting for discussion.
During this process, I strongly advise you to familiarize yourself with basic etiquette for emails and meetings—this reflects your professionalism and maturity.
If we proceed with the meeting, please pay close attention to the key requirements and expectations outlined during our discussion, as these will be critical to the content of your reference.
I will closely observe your conduct and follow-through before, during, and after the meeting.
Only if you adhere to the requirements agreed upon in the meeting will I proceed to write your reference.
