Workplan and Aims for Academy

Met with advisors. Agreed upon following strategy. 23/04/2022

Summary of my goals for the Transart Academy: It is to figure out/understand how and why Althea McNish came to be the person she became. Once I have captured her essence, I will be in a better position to organize my interviews with various subjects such as family members, the expert at the V&A Museum, other members of the Windrush generation and the Merikins community, etc. From those interviews, to be conducted after the close of the Academy, I will create the podcast about her life based on the theme of migrant achievement

But the primary focus of the Transart Academy for me is to analyse Althea McNish's personality through the lens of her family's migration experiences (her Merikin forebears and later as part of the Windrush generation), to try to understand how she came to be.

So, this is my workplan:

There are two strands of investigation: (1) Althea's and her family's experiences as black migrants and (2) how those experiences might have affected her creative practice.

My advisors have agreed to point me in the direction of authoritative reading materials on research pertaining to migration memories, in general, and black migration during the colonial era; these will form the basis for my analysis of Ms. McNish's life trajectory via the investigation of those two main research strands.
