PRE-DOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOW IN SUSTAINABILITY AND IMPACT FINANCE
Start date: Summer 2024 (flexible)

Professor Stefano Lovo and Associate Professor Jessica Jeffers are looking for a highly skilled and highly motivated individual to work as a full-time research professional for two years, on topics related to sustainability and impact finance. The position is based at HEC Paris (in person) and is designed for someone interested in applying to a PhD in economics or finance in the future. The ideal candidate will possess (i) strong attention to detail, (ii) strong computer skills including programming (see more details below), (iii) the ability to work independently to solve problems, and (iv) a long-term interest in pursuing research in economics or finance. Background in economics or finance is a plus, but not necessary — candidates with strong technical backgrounds and communication skills are welcome to apply.
The program is intended to serve as a bridge to a PhD program for students interested in economics and finance (especially sustainable finance), and designed to integrate the research professional into the HEC Paris research community. The research professional will have the opportunity to audit classes at HEC Paris and participate in seminars. Previous research professionals under our supervision have gone on to Ph.D. programs at Harvard, the University of Chicago, and Yale.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Support ongoing research projects of faculty by compiling, manipulating, and analyzing data using various software packages.
2. Obtain and organize information for research from other academic institutions, including creating summaries of the most recent literature.
3. Maintain effective communication with the supervising faculty members and outside institutions.
4. Coordinate with other research professionals and assistants as needed.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Required qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree.
2. Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills, as well as organizational skills and attention to detail.
3. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
4. Ability to work well independently, as well as with others, and to meet deadlines under pressure.
5. Programming proficiency in at least one statistical package (Python, Stata, R, etc).
Desired qualifications:
1. Previous research experience is strongly preferred.
2. Experience with web scraping and/or natural language processing is a plus.
3. Machine Learning knowledge is a plus.
COMPENSATION:
31 000 € annual + benefits (there will be an opportunity to discuss everything these benefits include at the interview stage of the process)
