Below is a list of talks I've given, as well as the places I've given them.
I really enjoy preparing for and giving talks, so please do get in touch if my work sounds interesting.
I keep the notes for my talks, so feel free to email me if you want to see them. I tend to prefer giving blackboard talks, so my notes are largely written so that I can deliver the talk (rather than to be read by others). This means they're often written in lots of shorthand, which is why they're not all uploaded.
July 2025: Arithmetic of a higher Euler characteristic - Motives and arithmetic geometry, Conference at TU Darmstadt. Based on work in progress with Ran Azouri, Stephen McKean and Anubhav Nanavaty.
June 2025: Symmetric powers of trace forms - British Mathematics Colloquium (Number theory workshop), University of Exeter. Based on this paper, however, this talk is aimed at general number theorists, so the use of the words "motivic homotopy theory" will be toned down.
May 2025: An arithmetic Yau-Zaslow formula - AGNT Seminar, University of Bath.
March 2025: An arithmetic Yau-Zaslow formula - EPF Lausanne.
February 2025: An arithmetic Yau-Zaslow formula - Number Theory, Algebra, and Geometry Seminar, University of Exeter.
January 2025: An arithmetic Yau-Zaslow formula - Oberseminar Algebraische Geometrie, Leibniz Universitat Hannover. Based on this paper (the same as from 2023)
December 2024: Galois invariants of obstruction sets - The advent of rational points II - King's College London.
October 2024: Galois invariants of obstruction sets - Bath Arithmetic Geometry Seminar.
June 2024: Galois invariants of obstruction sets - New Zealand Number Theory Workshop at the University of Canterbury. Based on this paper.
November 2023: The Valuative Section Conjecture and Étale Homotopy - New Zealand Number Theory Workshop at the University of Auckland.
June 2023: The Valuative Section Conjecture and Étale Homotopy - London Number Theory Seminar. Based on this paper.
February 2023: An arithmetic Yau-Zaslow formula - MAGIC Seminar, Imperial College, London.
February 2023: An arithmetic Yau-Zaslow formula - Duke University Algebraic Geometry Seminar. Based on this paper.
December 2022: Arithmetic Enumerative Geometry and the Yau-Zaslow formula: The Advent of Rational Points.
June 2022: Étale fundamental groups, section equivalence and "ét equivalence" - Linfoot Number Theory Seminar, Bristol. Based on a dormant project of mine that may get resurrected if I can find an application.
The below talks are talks I gave at study groups, junior seminars, or at other less formal events. These are almost all expository. I take very little, if any, credit for the results in them, and full credit for any errors in the notes.
February 2025: Iitaka fibrations and the constants in Manin/Malle's conjecture - Bath Malle Conjecture study group on this paper by Loughran-Santens.
November 2024: The theory of Quadratic Chabauty - Bath Quadratic Chabauty study group.
November 2024: The Kontsevich moduli space of n pointed stable maps over general fields - eCHT seminar on quadratic curve counting. This approximately covered Sections 4 and 5 (in both papers) of a duo of papers by Kass-Levine-Solomon-Wickelgren.
August 2024: Motivic Euler characteristics of symmetric powers of varieties - PCMI Research Programme, with Anna M. Viergever and Louisa Bröring. This was a somewhat experimental talk, surveying the general problem of computing the motivic Euler characteristics of symmetric powers of varieties. This problem forms the basis of at least these four papers (and also: Section 4 of this thesis). I'll take partial credit for the content of this talk which is covered in the two papers which I co-authored, but Ambrus Pál, Anna M. Viergever, Herman Rohrbach, Louisa Bröring, Dori Bejleri and Stephen McKean also deserve credit. We gave a rough survey of the results of all of these papers (though not the thesis, since the results in there came out after the talk). Despite these results, this is still an open problem, so do get in touch if you're interested in this!
March 2023: The section conjecture, valuations and graphs - London Junior Number Theory Seminar. This was sort of a "low tech" version of the "Valuative Section Conjecture" invited talks, where I avoided all homotopy theory, so the idea is the same, but the end results aren't anything new.
December 2022: An overview of "The Uplifting Theorem" - London Number Theory Study Group on "Smooth Profinite Groups"
August 2022: The Massey Vanishing Conjecture - YRANT IV, Glasgow. Please get in touch if you're interested in my work around this conjecture: I have one dormant project in this area, and two ideas for future projects.
June 2022: The Étale Fundamental Group and the Section Conjecture - ECRM, London (NB: The contents of this talk was the first half of the invited talk given at the Linfoot seminar)
February 2022: An introduction to birational anabelian Geometry - London Junior Number Theory Seminar
December 2021: Reciprocity laws in global fields in characteristic p - Study group on global fields in characteristic p.
October 2020/1: An introduction to schemes - Imperial Junior Geometry Seminar (Both years)
August 2021: The p-adic section conjecture and valuations - YRANT III (Covering this wonderful paper by Pop-Stix, a huge influence on this paper of mine)
June 2021: The topology of Berkovich spaces - London Study Group on Non-Archimedean Geometry
June 2021: Homotopy fixed points and the section conjecture - London Junior Number Theory Seminar
November 2020: Curve counting using the ring of varieties - KCL/UCL Junior Geometry Seminar. NB: This talk was recorded.
September - November 2020: 5 separate talks for the étale homotopy study group.
June 2020: The descent obstruction to rational points - London Junior Number Theory Seminar
