Jess Crawford, RN, MN (they/them)
I am a white settler and uninvited guest with British and German ancestry. I am a trans, non-binary, queer, and neurodivergent registered nurse and researcher committed to equity, relational accountability, and joyful, liberatory futures. I’ve lived on several Treaty and stolen Indigenous lands across so-called Canada and continue to learn from and with the traditional stewards of these territories.
I recently completed my Master of Nursing at the University of Manitoba (June 2025), where my work focused on gender affirming practices in nursing education. I am currently working as a research assistant in equity-based programs of research. As I look toward a PhD, my interests weave together planetary health, queer and trans joy in Nature (what I call ecojoy), and access to Land for equity-deserving communities. I am grateful to be the recipient of several honours, including a CIHR-CGSM award, Canadian Nurses Foundation, TYLENOL® Fund to Advance Diversity in Nursing and Health Equity Research award, and a 2024–2025 2SLGBTQIA+ Health Hub Fellow.
I approach my work and life with curiosity, care, and a strong belief in the power of connection. A perpetual guest, I continually strive to be a better relative and ancestor—including to more-than-human kin. With deep reverence for Nature and non-human kin (especially birds and squirrels), I invite playful, relational ways of knowing and being. Whether writing, walking, or birding, I am always dreaming of collective liberation—and warmly invite you to dream with me.
