Dear Hiring Committee,
It is with great enthusiasm that I submit my application for the position of ABC. As a nonprofit professional with over seven years’ experience in the field, I know my diverse skills and qualifications will make me an asset to XYZ Company.
As you will see from the attached resume, I’ve built my career in a variety of roles and nonprofit organizations, mostly in building and developing new programing, bringing in new partnerships for organizational growth and identifying community needs. I’m not only used to wearing many hats, I enjoy it; I thrive in a fast paced environment where no two work days are the same.
In addition to developing a strong collaborative working environment within my staff, I have made it my mission and goal to develop strong partnerships with my stakeholders. For several years I partnered with the United Way of Ottawa County in their annual fundraising efforts. My role was to share personal stories from our Bigs and Littles and how the United Way has offered their support to continually fund those relationships. I have learned the importance of bringing in personal stories to better assist community members in understanding how their donation, no matter how big or small, can change a life. Each year myself and my executive director would speak to over 80 local businesses in order to continually show our support for our partnership with the local United Way.
My partnership development has not stopped with my stakeholders, in fact, I believe it is equally as important to develop strong partnerships with community organizations. One of the biggest accomplishments I have had was in developing a partnership with the Dowagiac Chamber of Commerce to provide job shadowing opportunities for students within our program. Prior to the job shadowing experience students would gain hands on skills through experiential learning initiatives that involved introducing interviewing techniques, hand shaking competitions, resume writing workshops, etc. The workshops would allow the students to have a baseline of knowledge that could continually be built on to, at the end, offer students a toolbox of career skills. The job shadowing opportunity would also allow the students to experience a variety of careers and assist them in making a decision on what career field they might want to enter into after high school. The program will continually be tweaked to ensure the students are always learning and gaining the most from the experience.
Another facet of my work experience is my knowledge and ability to utilize evaluation tools within all areas of my work. One such experience included a collaboration with the Evaluation Specialist on Michigan State University’s campus. Through that collaboration I was able to build my own evaluation system for my mentoring programs. That evaluation is now utilized as the statewide peer mentoring assessment for all mentoring programs at MSU Extension.
Last but certainly not least, I want the committee to know that I have served as the Director of a federal TRIO grant for close to $400,000. This grant serves 750 students within Cass County, Michigan. In order to best serve the youth, I have to make decisions on where the money is spent, how best to organize the budget and understand how to partner with organizations within the community that center around the same mission and goals as our TRIO program. This all while making sure we adhere to federal guidelines for how the money is used. This position has made sure I manage funds effectively and continue to give back to the community we serve.
In closing, I am thrilled at the possibility of being able to give back to the community in a new capacity with XYZ Company. I would love the opportunity to meet with you and discuss the value I can bring to the organization. Please contact me (number) or via email at (email) to arrange for a convenient meeting time.
Thank you for your consideration, and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Sincerely,
Jeran Culina
