My firsties LOVED this activity! So many important skills were practiced along the way:
Fine motor skills
2D shape recognition and attributes
Following directions
Handwriting
The main focus of this activity was following directions —something we work hard on in first grade!
This activity is best done teacher-led, with the teacher giving clear, step-by-step directions while students follow along together. It’s a fun, engaging way to practice listening, focusing, and doing each step just right!
Teacher Tip: If you’re using this activity in K–2, remember that students are still learning to read and spell. Write the name of each shape on the board for them to see. This helps avoid lots of “How do you spell…?!” questions and keeps the lesson moving smoothly and happily!
