RCA is a rubisco activase gene studied in our lab for enhancing tolerance to heat stress. By combining RCA with other stress genes we can overexpress the genes and create abiotic stress tolerant cotton. We have three main testing sites along with a lab to determine crop improvements.
uncontrolled environment under rain-red (or low irrigation) to test gene constructs for abiotic stress tolerance to the Southern High Plains.
Homozygous screening, drought and salt studies can be performed in the greenhouse to test the cotton
Testing the effects of heat and drought on cotton and which gene constructs enhance crop performance
overexpress genes for drought, heat, and salt tolerance
Test homozygous lines in the greenhouse and growth chamber for abiotic stress tolerance
Field testing for rain fed and low irrigation farming for determination of transgenic trait for crop improvement
