This project involves students searching for sources about Cyber Security using Google News. The purpose of this project is find different ways and events of Cyber Security while using the new vocabulary terms learned in class and apply it into the real world.
Due to the pandemic, people were unable to meet in person for school, work, etc., starting in 2020 and 2021 a practice of Zoom Bombing became popular. Zoom bombing usually refers to an unwanted and destructive interruption into a video conference by an internet troll. During a meeting for a Northampton school committee, it was interrupted by someone sharing inappropriate media. When asked about the event the committee didn't knew at first but then realized their meeting was set on public instead of private. This is a good example of making sure everything is set and private so no one from the outside can join.
Emergency alerts and technology have always been a thing and it is difficult to hack into the alerts. Instead of hacking into an alert, hackers are now hacking to technology and creating fake decoys that look identical to the alert. Specifically a group of teenagers are hacking and creating fake emergency data Results (EDR) and others to unsuspected people. It caught the attention of the FBI and other agencies that are trying to solve this problem. Because of this people are trying to become more aware of these alerts and scams.
The use and idea of cryptocurrency is getting bigger and popular by day. But as most technology eventually have happened will get hacked and that is what happed with MailChimp. Mailchimp is an email marketing company was hacked by a group of hackers and stole data and money from the crypto currency Trezor. Many of its owners and employees were stolen from because of how "hackable" the emails, pins, and passwords were. This shows how having extra security and protection is worth it.
What I have learned from this project is that privacy and security is important. Just because it hasn't happed to you doesn't mean it can't happen. Anyone can get hacked especially if there isn't the correct privacy and security measurements. Events can teach anyone and show what can happen if privacy and security isn't done correctly.
