Hello, my name is Jeffrey Zhang, and I am currently a freshman pursuing a degree in Biology at Stonybrook University with a strong interest in the field of Health care. This interest I have for medicine came from when I lived in China for the first few years of my life, where I was constantly sick from the pathogens in the air. I had constant fevers, and my grandparents constantly pulled me to the hospital to get a diagnosis, but nothing got better. After moving to the United States, I was finally treated by the doctors here, and I was finally cured. This difference in treatment and diagnosis got me interested in how medicine is practiced in the United States.
Before coming to Stony Brook, I lived on Staten Island for about 7 years, and that is also where I went to high school and got most of my early experiences from. In high school, I was the President of the Reality Check club, where I hosted school-wide events and educated students and district legislators on tobacco usage in my community. Moreover, another important experience I had was volunteering in many departments at my Community Hospital, where I was first exposed to the field of medicine and nursing.Â
