My Policy

As Clubs Officer, I'll only have so much time, so if I am to make any change I have to use it wisely. These are things I think I can feasibly achieve during my term.

~Underpromise and overdeliver~

Clubs Council Reform

  • Better communication, consultation, and accountability

    • Fixing email communication by getting rid of central Clubs Council email. Less work for Communications Officer and no collective action problem.

    • Club seats on CCE so that clubs will have a direct avenue of input and feedback. More Clubs Council Meetings so they are shorter and more engaging.

    • Reopening Facebook direct messages for queries and concerns. Provides an avenue of direct and responsive communication.

  • Easier Affiliations and Funding

    • Transitioning to a new platform (QPay Union) for affiliations and grants. This allows automatic application progress tracking among other things.

    • Liaising with ANUSA admin so they have more answers and power such as approving grants. Faster grants, faster responses.

    • Simplifying policy in consultation with clubs, so that the system is efficient but effective. Faster affiliations, less reading.

Better support for Clubs

  • Event support

    • Facilitating cross club collaborations and promoting alternative avenues of funding and support for a greater diversity of events, such as Kambri, SEEF.

    • Universal guide to Club Venue Hire that encompasses all on campus spaces including Kambri, Marie Reay, classrooms, and BKSS.

    • Supporting new clubs with a startup package on budgeting, advertising, useful contacts, and general info.

  • Club exposure

    • Mini Market Days and a weekly "featured Club" campaign to reduce reliance of clubs on Market Day as the only exposure opportunity.

    • Clubs 101 info nights at halls and for the wider community so that students can get to know the clubs system. Run immediately after I am elected.

    • Campaign to make club executive positions more attractive by offering exclusive networking and career development. Working with ANU Careers/ANU+.

O Week and Bush Week

  • Collaborating with Clubs

    • Pushing Universal Lunch Hour to be a bigger deal and valuable recruitment opportunity, so clubs are encouraged to tailor it to their own needs.

    • A clear application and approval processes for ANUSA x Club events so traditional events like Epic Games Night can run smoothly and without drama.

  • Improving coordination across campus

    • Collaborating with Rescoms and clubs to establish an an O Week calendar before holidays set in. Reduces event clashes and means less event burnout.

    • Having more Volunteer Coordinators onboard earlier, and training them properly so that O Week volunteers are reliable and efficient.

  • Rethinking our big events

    • Early Market Day consultation with clubs and ACT Health so that the event doesn't get cancelled, and Clubs aren't scrambling for information.

    • Consulting with students about Friday Night Party, to ensure the survival of a proven and legendary event, while keeping it epic and fun.

Accessibility and Engagement

  • Reaching out to remote students

    • Supporting virtual events by featuring them on ANUSA channels. Creating resources for online events and exploring other social media platforms.

    • Forming a subcommittee to run Virtual Market Days in consultation with clubs. Tailored to reflect time zones and clubs most relevant to remote students.

  • Ensuring equity

    • Establishing an Equity Grant in consultation with clubs, aiming to allow to funding for equity tickets on a demand driven basis.

    • Continuing to work with Departments for a comprehensive consultative process to address issues of discrimination within clubs.

  • Thinking beyond our campus

    • Coordinating with ISD to help clubs arrange in person events overseas, so remote students can find a community wherever they are.

    • Promoting ANU+ Volunteering programs so ANU students are more engaged in the wider Canberra Community.
