The Jefferson Township Fire Department was organized on March 30,1959. We currently have twenty four active members. We have two tankers capable of hauling thirty three hundred gallons of water. Our engine has a capacity of one thousand gallons. We have a fully equipped rescue truck with a six hundred and thirty gallon capacity. Our new building was completed in 2006. We would like to thank the community for all their support the past fifty years.

Forty seven people met at Glendale School, Monday March 30,1959 for the purpose of organizing a Volunteer Fire Department for Jefferson Township. Five men attended from the Minford Fire Department and on man from the Rubyville Department.
Edwin Flowers acted as chairman and called the group to order. The following were nominated for president: Oakley Burchett 21

L.C. Curry made a motion that the one receiving the most votes be president and the second highest be vice president. Motion Carried
Dick Haag nominated John J. Miller for Secretary and the motion was seconded by John Artis. John J. Miller nominated Donald Romanello for secretary and the nomination was seconded by Wilson Williams. Miller 20 Romanello 9 . Motion made and seconded that second highest of votes be assistant secretary. William R. McKee nominated Dick Haag for treasurer and John J. Miller seconded the nomination. Donald Romanello nominated L. C. Curry for treasurer and Willard Williams seconded the nomination. Haag 10 Curry 13 . Walter Burns nominated Ralph Arrick for trustee and Wilson Williams seconded the nomination John Artis nominated Wm. R. McKee for Trustee and John J. Miller seconded the nomination. Ray Chandler nominated Walter Burns for trustee and Morris Fettters seconded the nomination. . The group voted for all those nominated serve as trustees. Motion Carried.
The President appointed the following committees. Wilson Williams, John Artis, Chester Gibbons, Investigate the purchase of a used truck. Dean Fetters Dale Kuhn Homer Brisker To Contact Capt. James Pendleton and arrange for fire fighting Instruction classes.. Edwin Flowers Sam Stapleton C. Egerton Investigate types of pumping units. L.C. Curry nominated Stewart Knight for Ways and Means Chairman and Ralph Arrick seconded the nomination. Motion Carried
The following are on the Donations Committee: Oakley Burchett, Walter Burns, Wm R. McKee, Donald Romanello. John J. Miller, Edwin Flowers, Ralph Arrick, Homer Brisker, Wilson Williams, Willard Williams, Herbert May, Walter Buckle, Dick Haag.
Wm. R. McKee made a motion to adjourning to meet Monday April 13 at 7:30 at Glendale School.
All committees will report at that time. The group decided to try a volunteer donation campaign instead of a bond issue to start with.
