Of the Fallen - Prologue
Of the Fallen - Prologue
Thundering sounds of battle rang outside of her crystal palace. The intense realization that all she had ever known would be lost was finally setting in. Chandeliers fell from the high crystalline ceiling as she ran for the nursery; absolute desperation could no longer describe the purpose in her haste. Cries of rage echoed throughout the house, They are inside now! Helena could feel the icy cold fingers of panic clasping at her throat, but her divine inner strength battled to keep her thoughts clear. Now more than ever, she needed to have absolute focus! She had to make it to the nursery, tears rolled gracefully down her face. Even in sorrow and fear, her beauty could not be described. Each tear fell as if it were a shooting star suspended in time. It was beginning to dawn on her that this would be the last she would see her two sons. Desperation took hold of her very being; if this plan wasn't going to work, she would at the very least see her two beautiful sons one last time. She rounded the final corner leading to the nursery, two demons awaited, blade in hand, with an unquenchable bloodlust. They, too, were looking for the children. Elegantly, Helena conjured her brilliant golden bow from thin air, with a fluid flick of the wrist. With ease, she fired a radiant arrow of burning light perfectly through both of the grotesque demons' heads, skewering them simultaneously to the nearby wall. Fear clutched at the archangel's heart, as now it may be too late. To her unfathomable relief, upon sprinting into the nursery, she found her sons lying in their cribs. The plan was not yet met, though. Where was the damn butler?! Mangled halves of bodies slid to her feet as these thoughts transpired, with another sigh of temporary relief, she knew the answer to her own question. "Did you bring them?!" Helena asked the hooded butler as he casually strolled in." As promised," he replie,d pulling two amulets from his robe. One would notice the fine craftsmanship on such small tokens. One amulet was a red crystal, embraced with an ebony stone brace adorned with carvings of fire and two swords crossed in the center. The other amulet was a blue crystal, a silver metal secured this one etched with bolts of lightning and a hammer boldly mounted in the center. The amulets began to glow faintly when each child had theirs placed around their neck. The mother knew this was goodbye and wept at the boys welling tears. Although they were infants, they too felt that something dreadful was imminent. Helena bestowed one final kiss to her children. "Be strong" she whispered close as she embraced them tightly one last time. "One day we shall cross paths, but not in life. May death unite us once more..." She reluctantly handed her children to the robed butler "My lady," he muttered she looked back, tears streaming down her face "with my life, I will protect them for as long as needed. However, these two won't need my protection for long." With a flash he vanished from the quaking crystal palace. Helena stood there in the nursery, despair and terror had no place in her heart anymore. Her motherly instinct transformed her anxiety into a seething rage! A blue aura surrounded her as she focused her power for her last fight. One that would at the very least buy time for her children, but one thing's for certain... heads will roll in paradise today. With a powerful leap she flew straight through a stained glass window from the nursery into the chaotic battlefield below, firing Arrow after arrow, not a single one missed their mark! Five demons from behind tried to ambush her, but her divine senses were far too keen for that. She split her golden bow into two blades that flared with blue light as she turned and easily dodged the petty attacks of these lesser filth. One seeing this battle wouldn't see this as combat, but rather a ballet of blood and rage. Every twitch of every muscle had a purpose. Every turn well thought out as if it were previously choreographed. They stood no chance as she danced and dismembered her targets with little effort. As she skated the fifth, she rejoined her bow and drew the string of light. The longer she held it, the more it burned and grew in power. When released, it whistled with sounds of a beautiful angelic chorus, and on impact a thunderous crescendo that obliterated 20 or more demons below. If brutality and carnage had beauty, it would be found here. Countless more demon scum fell to Helena's wrath, but they kept coming. 50 would be slain, 100 more would come. Amongst all of the chaos and bloodshed, silence fell over the battlefield. Inside the horde they opened a pathway leading to the crystal palace and kneeled. The Angels had stopped too. "HELENA!" A booming voice rang across the courtyard. Helena glided down to face the source of this voice. This was her final moment and she knew it. She touched down and walked past the kneeling demons who growled as she passed by. Out of the masses the leader of these demons emerged, he was much unlike the others. He was a handsome demon, and moved with such pride in his step. He came to a halt only inches from Helena's face "where are they?" He asked calmly. Helena giggled under her breath which brought a quick backhand across her face "Normally I don't allow second chances, but given the circumstances I'll ask again, where are your children?" His voice was cold, with a deadly air of seriousness about it. Helena simply replied "Even I don't know anymore, so keeping me alive for this petty interrogation is useless." She said with a smirk. With a speed blinding to those of lesser strength, His blade came for her head with this answer. Even faster now Helena parried his devastating blow. "They have been taken away and hidden. you will never have them. I know you are more powerful than I will ever be, but you will have a sample of my pain this day before my light fades!" she sang, in a voice so chilling it felt as though a frost was laying over the battlefield. She jabbed the second blade with blinding speed into the rib cage of the demon. A searing pain overwhelmed the entirety of his body as her promised curse set in. With one swoop of his blade he beheaded her, almost too easily. Her body and head faded in a blue light. No battle was won here, only a wasted effort and useless bloodshed. The silence was loud now. Silence left unanswered questions. Silence brought rage. Silence had won this day.
