Their Nova Universe is my novel in progress. It's slow and gruelling but I'm definitely working on it when I can!
This page is to spread some awareness about it as well as to share other Nova Universe content.
Inhabited by dragons and humans, Nova is a world of civilisation, wilderness and unexplored territory. The Divinity Dragons keep it functioning, and without them the world will decay. However, with the rise of non-believers and skeptics, their existence is in danger. So in an effort to protect themselves, they summon 'The Exempt', a group of unknowing characters that are led in a journey, to discover themselves and the secrets that the Divinity Dragons keep from the world.
The waters were almost luminous, the celestial light from the moon bestowing a shining aura over the ocean. Beautiful as it was though, the surface was not calm, as its fine layer was occasionally parted by a particular roaming creature, one that was adamant about protecting its region. The small wooden boat nearby rocked and shuddered as if its sides were being tickled by the waves, and its driver was unaware of the disturbance beneath the craft. But he paid attention only to the horizon, longing for the return of his companion. The soul in the water however was not going to let him wait.
The man’s fingers swept over the gunwale of the boat, exploring each dent and ridge of the natural wooden texturing. Examining it closely reminded him of the forests he frequently resided in, the appearance of the bark on the ground and on the trees. The calming memories combined with that fresh sea smell soothed Lyle greatly, obliviousness slowly overcoming him until only a totally unique sight was able to tip him off his trance. It was quick - a long dark blade slicing the water, a long fin of some sort that stretched for metres on end. It blended in well with the dark cerulean sky, but Lyle was familiar with the appearance of all types of fish and all types of water, yet this was something new.
Lyle quickly snatched the lantern in hand, holding it high so that the orange ribbons of blazing amber painted the tide’s ridges with ease. It reached far, but not far enough to reveal the identity of the shifting shape, and before Lyle could maneuver the boat closer, the fin disappeared between the navy slithers. He cursed in a ghostly manner, a mere puff of air that disturbed only a small portion of the breeze beyond his lips. Lyle could only hope that whatever lurked by was not interested in the trespasser that he was. But it was harder to relax with the added nervous pressure of knowing something large was amidst the area, even more so as the boat’s rocking became more frequent and each swerve seemed steeper than the last one. But Lyle reassured himself “May will be back soon for me”, and continued to wait, continued to watch.
Most lore can be found in the novel... but to gain some interest, here are a few summaries of the various components in the world.
Gems are one of the foundations of Nova, used by all creatures of the world, especially humans. They are naturally created, found and collected in various locations depending on their type. Each gem consists of an outer shell, dis-solvable by a large quantity of hydrogen. Once the exterior is melted, the 'essence' of the gem inside is released and will react accordingly to its element. Example, a fire gem will generate an enormous amount of heat once activated. This is a common gem in the world, used as a tool for both basic and complex tasks, such as boiling a cup of water.
Humans and dragon kind are common throughout the world. Dragons, whilst they cannot speak to humans, are just as intelligent as they are. Because of this, they usually work alongside one another - as friends, companions, colleagues, etc. Though wilder dragons still do roam the world in their own secluded areas. There are multiple races of dragons, just as their are races of humans. They are of different colours, and beholding various abilities, some more exclusive than others.
One of the governing concepts of the world involve the Divinity Dragons. They are dragons, much larger than the normal kind. There are only 6 of them, and they all play a role in the stability of Nova. Example, the Divinity Dragon Marine (chapter 1) is known to control the oceans and tides. If a town has a sudden onslaught of flooding, the residents may be inclined to believe they have angered Marine somehow and will thus do their best to please her.
There is one other dragon, Nova - the parent of all dragon kind, the God of the world and galaxies. It is commonly known as the Galaxy Dragon. Though it has never been seen, never made itself visible to the world. Thus many consider Nova to be a myth, or an unlikely legend. But older texts depict this dragon to be the size of a thousand suns.
There are four factions in the world, depicted below. Each control their own territory, some more friendlier than others. The main reasoning for these factions is politics of course. To summarise, FreeRein are the leaders of Freedom and human/dragon rights. Whereas the SkyKeepers are the commanders of control and organisation.
I'm rather unsure of whether I want to continue this, as my novel has pretty much replaced it with additional lore and content - more than I would have ever been able to have in my web comic. However it is still available to read and at least gives you a better visual representation of the world.
