Department of Biomedical Imaging, Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya, 50603 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
I graduated with a degree in B. Biomedical Engineering from Universiti Malaya (UM) in 2003, followed by a Master of Medical Physics. I worked as a radiotherapy medical physicist for 1.5 years at Subang Jaya Medical Centre before rejoining UM and furthering my PhD study at the University of Wollongong in 2008. I obtained my PhD in medical radiation physics in 2011. I was promoted to associate professor in 2018 and full professorship in 2024.
My academic expertise lies in medical physics. I have established myself as a leading expert in the field, with a diverse research portfolio spanning radiotherapy, diagnostic radiology, and interventional radiology.
In 2023, I obtained certification by the International Medical Physics Certification Board (IMPCB) for the diagnostic and interventional radiology physics track. This accomplishment makes me the first and currently the only Diplomate of IMPCB (DX) certified professional in Malaysia and the Southeast Asia region (IMPCB Registry: https://www.impcbdb.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/IMPCB-Registry.pdf ).
I have developed niche skills in radiation dosimetry. My research area focuses on the development of novel imaging and dosimetry techniques to improve the accuracy and efficacy of radiation therapy and radiation safety in medical imaging. My research has significant clinical impact, improving patient care and reducing healthcare costs.
I have mentored 1 postdoctoral candidate, 14 PhD students (10 of whom have graduated and 4 are currently ongoing), 3 Master by Research students, 49 Master of Medical Physics research projects, 8 Master of Radiology clinical research projects (5 of which have graduated and 3 are ongoing).
I have secured numerous competitive research grants, locally and internationally, totaling RM 1.65M. I was the primary investigator for 14 grants, 42% of the total amount.
I'm currently the programme coordinator for the Master of Medical Physics programme at the Universiti Malaya, which is accredited by the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine (IPEM), UK. It is the only postgraduate medical physics programme outside the UK and Ireland that has this accreditation. (https://medicalphysics.um.edu.my/master-of-medical-physics-coursework ).
I was promoted to Head of Department of the Medical Physics Department, Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) in March 2025.
IN 2019, I was awarded the South East Asian Federation of Organizations of Medical Physics (SEAFOMP) Young Leader Award.
