Actual Role and Duties

Dr. Mbabuike practices medicine in New York City. His practice specializes in the management and treatment of chronic pain, particularly severe arthritis. JeanJacques Mbabuike provides non-surgical orthopedic therapies for pain in the knees, shoulders, hips, and back. He examines individuals over time and develops tailored regimens based on their specific requirements.

Academic Qualifications and Medical Training

Dr. Mbabuike began his academic career at The Sophie Davis School of Medicine, City College of New York's renowned accelerated combined B.S./M.D. program (now CUNY School of Medicine). As a result, as a high school senior, I decided to study medicine after graduating and enrolling in college.

The Cuny School of Medicine's Sophie Davis Biomedical Education Program intends to help high-achieving high school students in pursuing an accelerated curriculum to address medical sector shortages, particularly among minority students.

Entrance to this program requires paying strict attention to high school grades in critical subjects, particularly science courses in junior year, math scores, and communication abilities. The program also investigates volunteers and personality traits such as maturity, compassion, and drive. Standardized test scores, a high GPA, three essays, and five letters of recommendation are all required for the rigorous admissions process.

JeanJacques Mbabuike excelled in these areas and was chosen as one of the program's 50 to 60 students each year. He was qualified for a 7-year combined bachelor of science and medical doctorate program with this degree. Dr. Mbabuike completed his undergraduate education in three years at City College of New York before enrolling in the New York University Grossman School of Medicine, where he earned his M.D.

Professional Experience

Dr. Mbabuike completed his surgical training at various top New York City hospitals after graduating from the NYU School of Medicine, including New York Presbyterian Cornell, Westchester Medical Center, Lenox Hill, and Mount Sinai Beth Israel. Dr. Mbabuike was well-versed in both general and orthopedic surgery. During this time, he obtained extensive clinical experience while also conducting and publishing unique and cutting-edge research.

Credentials and Experience in the Profession

Dr. Mbabuike's current research interests are in the holistic treatment of pain, particularly chronic pain such as severe arthritis. To remain modern and in line with the growing needs of medicine, JeanJacques Mbabuike is broadening his practice to focus on aesthetic medicine. To attain the highest level of satisfaction, Dr. Mbabuike can focus on personalized regimens for each patient, comparable to pain management. Dr. Mbabuike's admission into this new sector has allowed him to continue professionally challenging himself while maintaining an attitude of continuous study.

Pain management involves discussion with patients who commonly want or need to avoid surgical treatments but are concerned about their quality of life owing to joint discomfort. Dr. Mbabuike's ability to connect with individuals and put them at ease enough to admit their darkest anxieties and undergo surgical procedures serves him well in every situation.

Contribution to Philanthropy and Charities

JeanJacques Mbabuike is a first-generation Nigerian American who was born and raised in New York City, and he is one of the few African men in medicine. As a result, Dr. Mbabuike has always felt a responsibility and a strong desire to make the journey easier and more frequent for those like him. Mentoring, he claims, is a vital equalizer in bringing young Black men like himself into the medical profession. Dr. Mbabuike's purpose is to not only provide a blueprint for succeeding and excelling in the medical profession but also to create a pipeline into the area that will outlast his presence.

African men made up 3.1% of the national medical student body in 1978 but just 2.9% of students in 2019, according to a 2019 New England Journal of Medicine Study on the Diversity of the National Medical Body.

Black males made up 3.1% of the national medical student population in 1978, but just 2.9% in 2019, with medical schools at historically Black colleges and universities accounting for a respectable 0.5%.

Concerns over the future of Black men in medicine prompted JeanJacques Mbabuike and a number of other Black male physicians to establish the Black Male Initiative, or BMI, an organization committed to empowering and mentoring African guys in medicine. The group's goal is to network with students and Black guys in the workforce in order to exchange information and address workplace problems.

The group hopes that by implementing these approaches, more African men will graduate from medical school and excel in their careers. Dr. Mbabuike is inspired to pursue this vital endeavor with a desire to advance medical justice and equality.

Personal Interests and Hobbies

Dr. Mbabuike's career and dedication to BMI consume much of his time, yet he still has a few hobbies. He likes sports and has an active lifestyle. Dr. Mbabuike played recreational basketball for nearly 12 years until the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

He spends more time working out and watching professional sports since he is no longer involved in recreational leagues. The New York Knicks, the New York Giants, and LeBron James are his favorite teams. JeanJacques Mbabuike also likes high-intensity activities, weight training, and his favorite at-home pastime, peloton platform spinning sessions.

In order to maintain an active lifestyle, Dr. Mbabuike enjoys traveling to new locations, learning new languages, and experiencing new cultures.

He also enjoys movies and theater, especially considering New York City's extensive and diverse choices.
