I have had the pleasure of leading curriculum development and implementation in the largest school district in North Carolina. I have led a team of curriculum writers to develop a comprehensive high school English Language Arts Curriculum for high school. The process involved working with curriculum designers to develop standards-aligned curriculum from the process of imagining, writing, and revising curriculum. In addition, I have had experience of large-scale rollout of curriculum to ensure that there is buy in from all involved in a curriculum rollout. At EL Education, I have had the opportunity to coach schools in various stages of implementation of the EL curriculum. As a coach, I work to help them draw the connection between their current practice and the practices embedded in the EL curriculum. I support teachers in drawing connections between the importance of reading, speaking, writing and thinking to support students in knowledge building. I also help teachers, through coaching using a strengths-based model, how to bridge the tension between a planned curriculum v planning for teaching, and how to keep the teacher at the center of preparing for delivery.
