This page contains a compilation of the four different writing assignments we had to do in class: forum posts, journal entries, critical analyses, and unit plan.
The forum posts contain my initial reactions to the topics discussed in the lecture notes. This was a good time for me to express my thoughts on the matter and to also connect with my classmates, especially since we were not in a face-to-face class. It was enlightening to read their forum posts and receive responses on mine. I had a fun time seeing how many people think alike and how many people think differently, but everyone always had brilliant ideas to share.
Below is a folder containing all the journal reflection entries for each unit. I love how this activity enables me to think back on what I learned and be grateful for the new knowledge I gained. I also like that I have to reflect on something that needs to be improved, for this practice encourages lifelong learning and that's something we should all aim for.
In some units, we were given either an article to read or a video to watch, and we would have to think long and hard about the given material. I like how this writeup helped me dissect the videos or readings really well. I learned so many new things from the critical analysis materials, especially some procedures about existing strategies that I knew in theory but didn't really know how to apply in real life.
After our four microteaching demonstrations, we were tasked to create a unit plan that consisted of five different lessons but on one big topic. I'm grateful because I got to use two of the lessons I used for my microteaching demo. Upon working on my unit plan and getting the lesson plans from existing lessons that I was currently teaching, I was happy to realize that I was already applying a couple of the recommended strategies in my classes. This made making the unit plan a lot easier, and I saw how a teacher can teach similar lessons in completely different ways to keep the students engaged.
