Fundraising has Concluded! The Gaga Pit has been delivered to the Avery, thank you everybody for your support in achieving this goal!
My name is Jack Dowdall, and I'm currently a candidate for the rank of Eagle Scout, actively engaged in working on my Eagle Scout Service Project. This project holds significant importance in my journey to becoming an Eagle Scout, as I have the responsibility to plan and lead a service project of my own. To add to it's significance, the beneficiary of my project is my childhood school - the local Avery Elementary. Successfully completing this project will showcase my dedication and strong commitment to Scouting, as well as my ability to successfully lead a group to accomplish a greater task. I'm fortunate to have the support of Troop 7, as well as my friends and family, and I'm optimistic about achieving my goal!

My Eagle Project involves the procurement of an ADA accessible Gaga Pit for the Avery School. Gaga is like a variation on the rules of dodgeball, though the gameplay is much more dynamic and less viscous than dodgeball can often be. Students at Avery have been playing Gaga in a makeshift "pit" during their gym classes - however the use of overturned folding-tables is a temporary one. This new pit will be stable and feature a roller gate that will allow students of all abilities to join in the fun. Fifteen feet wide and made of durable plastic; the pit will also be transportable, almost entirely collapsible for easy storage, and available for use both indoors and outdoors at Avery.
My hope is to have the Gaga pit in-house and ready-to-go at Avery by the end of September. To that end, a few fundraisers will be taking place over the course of the coming weeks. More information regarding fundraising efforts can be located under the "Fundraising" tab of this site or by clicking here. In that time, I also intend to host events for both students and staff to learn about the fun game of Gaga and get acquainted with the new equipment. Assisting me with the running of these events will be the kind volunteers of Troop 7 Dedham.
Note: Apologies, it does not appear the linked Google Calendar is working upon publishing the site. This is fine, as all dates are listed elsewhere.
Yard Waste Removal will take place the weekend of 8/26-8/27. Bags will be collected in a Minuteman Landscaping Truck and transported to their facility for composting. Additionally, a Bottle & Can drive will be held on 9/9, taking place directly following the Run for the Fallen at the VFW on Eastern Ave.
I chose to focus my Eagle project on the Avery Elementary School because of the many fond memories I have of my time there. The teachers and staff were amazing and I'd like to repay their kindness with something that will bring the entire school community enjoyment for years to come. I see the pit as a gift that'll last long beyond my days in the Dedham Public School system, and something to be proud of accomplishing.
We appreciate all kinds of support, so donations can be made using cash, card or check (Checks must be made out to Troop 7 Dedham)
