Shiva the Destroyer

Shiva The Creator

Lord Shiva has many names: Supreme Being, Chief of the Gods, Lord of the Universe, The Destroyer. Every name designated to him holds true. As Supreme Being, Shiva has dedicated his existence as the primal soul of the universe, protecting and transforming all of creation in a never-ending cycle of rebirth and destruction.

This cycle has ended and begun anew many times before, and will continue again for many eons to come.

----------------

The cycle begins again — Lord Shiva spent his days in meditation on Mount Kailash. His deep thought was impenetrable — though many a God and demon had attempted to rouse him with poor outcome. Shiva meditates to balance the forces of nature, his third eye closed, and his other two open as the sun and the moon.

Shiva breathes in deeply, inhaling every vibration emanating throughout the universe. As he does so, he feels negativity course through his being. He recognizes it as spiritual ignorance taking hold. Awakening from his trance, Shiva stands and begins to follow the vibrations to their source.

They lead Lord Shiva to Apasmara — the demon dwarf of nonsense and unenlightenment. He enjoys spreading his foolishness across the earth, infecting everything with ignorance. His immortality means he cannot be destroyed, and he lives on in the hearts and spirits of humanity.

Shiva, recognizing the demon, knew he could not kill Apasmara without disturbing the balance between spiritual knowledge and spiritual ignorance. Doing so would invoke the attainment of knowledge without the dedication and hard-work to achieve it — thus depreciating knowledge in all capacity.

Shiva thought to himself "how am I to defeat ignorance without disturbing karmic balance?" He spent many days in deep thought, looking to overcome his adversary.

At last, Shiva knew how to balance the world. He took on his form of Nataraja — the Lord of Dance, and confronted Apasmara.

In his top right hand, Nataraja carries the drum, Damuru, the vibrations of which create the sounds of life, and count the ticks of time. He beats the drum in steady rhythm as he approaches the demon. In his top left hand, Nataraja carries Agni, the fire of creation and destruction. It balances death and rebirth.

Nataraja stands at the ready — his bottom right palm out, and his right leg raised. The demon Apasmara laughs, thinking to himself how silly this god looked. He wasn't prepared for the attack.

Nataraja danced toward him, a circle of flames spinning around him. In only a moment, the demon was subdued as Nataraja crushed his head with his right foot. No amount of squirming or screeching could release him. With his right foot planted firmly on the demon, Nataraja raises his left leg in moksha — liberation, symbolizing freedom from ignorance.

Shiva knew when he took this form he would remain in this cosmic dance for all of eternity — if only to suppress the spread of ignorance. He dances the Tandava — the dance of bliss. This dance creates, preserves, and destroys the universe.

As he dances throughout the cosmos, Nataraja is surrounded by the cosmic fire that destroys creation. As the karmic cycle orbits round, Nataraja dances the universe back to life, drumming the heartbeat of the cosmos on Damuru.

The cycle begins again.

Speculation

Shiva is described as a mighty God — capable of both destruction and creation. His other forms, Vishnu and Brahma, are creator and preserver. Yet, Shiva has many forms as destroyer — Bhairava being his fiercest. Bhairava is the annihilator — eradicating evil and restoring balance.

Another destroyer form of Shiva's is Rudra —The Roaring God. Rudra is the god of wind and storms. His name means "he who eradicates problems from it's roots." The meaning of his name holds true, as Rudra creates total destruction in times of great trouble. As the God of Storms, Rudra can create massive tornadoes, cyclones — even floods.

Taking his different avatars into consideration, it's clear that Shiva is a being with great power. Could it be that, instead of a god, Shiva was an ancient alien leader of a great army? Could his "avatars" have been great warriors who committed incredible feats during war?

Ancient Astronaut Theorists say yes.

Mount Kailash is regarded as the spiritual center of the universe. Home of Lord Shiva, it is believed to be the birth-place of four of the world's religions: Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Taoism. These four religions have many cultural ties, and share many of the same aspects. Could it be that the creators of these religions based their beliefs on one supreme being?

There are many who believe Mount Kailash is hollow, housing the most powerful vimana, or an ancient nuclear power plant. Ancient Astronaut Theorists believe both to be true.

According to theorists, the mystery of Mount Kailash lies in an ancient Buddhist manuscript — The Meru Blueprint. This blueprint was found hidden in a Buddhist temple. This manuscript depicts Mount Meru — the sacred mountain that connects heaven and earth. The manuscript caught the attention of a scientist who specializes in military weaponry. This scientist recognized the manuscript as a blueprint for a particle accelerator.

How could ancient Buddhists have created this blueprint? The answer may lie with the identity of Lord Shiva.

As creator, Lord Shiva gifted humanity with many technological advances. In mythology, it's said that the gods came from great cities in the sky, descending onto the earth in small, flying vehicles.

There are some who believe that as the war progressed, humanity turned away from their leader. To reconcile their betrayal, Shiva decided he must put an end to the war once and for all.

Ancient Astronaut Theorists believe there is a connection between Lord Shiva and the great flood. It's believed that Shiva hid his devoted followers beneath Kailasa Temple, protecting them from the raging waters he inflicted upon his enemies. After the waters subsided, they emerged to repopulate the earth — dedicating the temple to Shiva in his honor.

Could the Meru Blueprint have been the power behind the great flood? Are the legends of Shiva actually historic events? Is Shiva an alien? Only the ancients know.

Author's Note: I had trouble with this story as well. There aren't any exact "creation" stories in Hindu. Actually there are like 5, and I couldn't find a great back ground story about Shiva's creation dance. There isn't really a story behind this, just many analyses about his cosmic dance and the many statues of it. I ended up reading multiple interpretations of his dance and watching videos of the dance to create the story. I think the dance is so beautiful, it's fascinating to watch! The meanings behind it are also fascinating, so I hope my rendition of the story is up to par. I wanted to show Shiva as the destroyer to tie in with the speculation that he's an alien lol. This speculation portion was fun to research. I watched many videos discussing the possibility of Shiva as an extraterrestrial being — even one where Sadhguru was asked if this could possibly be true. Imagine asking an enlightened person about aliens. How funny! There's so many videos about him discussing supernatural things — like has Sadhguru met a ghost? Anyway, that's off topic. I tried to make this as non-blasphemous as possible — there is a lot of religious speculation and I don't want to offend lol. This speculation ties this project together, and also brings it to a close. I very much enjoyed working on it! I'm sad to see it end.
