Queer LatinX Scientists


From developing policies to protect natural parks to enhancing quantum chemistry calculations and deepening our understanding of the Universe.

In celebration of Sydney World Pride in February 2023, I designed four infographics showcasing and amplifying the work of some queer LatinX scientists. These infographics included the work of:



I shared these infographics through Twitter resulting in almost 200 engagements, 26 likes, 11 retweets, and 3 quotes.

Brigitte Baptiste

A Colombian biologist. Her work has been instrumental in creating and supporting policies for protecting Colombian national natural parks.

She is also an advocate for the rights of the LGBTIQA+ community and her work has enhanced trans-women visibility in Colombia.

Marcos Casanova Páez

A Chilean quantum chemist optimising the source code of different quantum chemistry engines to allow more accurate calculations of chemical properties.

His work has been essential in highlighting the importance of long-range interactions in quantum chemistry calculations.

Jorge Andrés Villa Vélez

A Colombian astronomer interested in the H2 spectral lines present in different galaxies in the Universe. His work is crucial in deepening our understanding of how galaxies form and evolve.

He is also interested in facilitating astronomy knowedlge to the general public through outreach activities.

Jessica Esquivel

A Mexican-American particle physicist studying the most basic building blocks in our Universe.

Jessica is also a science communication ambassador and an advocate of equity and diversity in science. Jessica has participate din multiple projects seeking to improve the experience of woemn, LGBTIQA+, and afro communities in science.
