What’s New in The Sims 4?

Family Tree Updates!

A Sims family tree showing two adult Sims linked as parents at the top, with two younger Sims connected below as their children.

The Family Tree has been updated to expand how you experience and tell Sims’ family stories. Your Sims now have relationship labels for in-laws, half siblings, great grandparents, and more! Extended family members will also be shown in the family tree. Players can also choose whether adopted Sims are labeled as such in the Family Tree.

New relationship labels include: Mother-in-Law, Father-in-Law, Sister-in-Law, Brother-in-Law, Daughter-in-Law, Son-in-Law, Distant Relative, Distant Relative-In-Law, Half-sister, Half-brother, Stepmother, Stepfather, Stepdaughter, Stepson, Great-grandmother, Great-grandfather, Great-grandson, Great-granddaughter, Parent’s Cousin, Cousin’s Child, Grandniece, Grandnephew, Grand-aunt, Grand-uncle, Ancestor, Descendant, and Relative-In-law. Divorced has a new name: Ex-Spouse, and Deceased Spouse has a new name: Late Spouse.

Close relatives are prohibited from being romantically involved. This prevents autonomous flirting between In-Laws or Step-relatives.

Flared Staircases!

Get ready to create grand looking staircases! Now, you can widen the top or bottom of a staircase (symmetrically or asymmetrically) to give your builds a touch of elegance. Additionally, stair rails can now be applied to only one side of a staircase and we’ve added a slider to change the length of the rail.

Create a Sim

Africana Style Filter:

A new style filter, Africana, has been added to the game. This style filter makes it easier to sort and find African-inspired items in Create a Sim and Build Mode.

New Jewel-toned Nails:

12 new luxurious jewel-toned and metallic almond-shaped Nails have been added to Create a Sim.

Lost Legacies Event

Embark on a whirlwind adventure in the Lost Legacies Event as your Sim is swept into a royal treasure hunt, sparked by the arrival of a mysterious royal emissary. Play now through March 16th!

• [EA Forums] Resolved an issue that caused photos to turn black, discovered after the January 13th Base Game update.

• [EA Forums] Fixed additional instances of an issue where entering and exiting Build Mode during Scenarios with goals would cause the UI to disappear or the game to become unresponsive.

• [EA Forums] Book covers for Baking, Wellness, Snowboarding, Rock Climbing, Herbalism and Photography books should no longer change when placed on retail displays. Fabrication and Mixology skill books no longer have the same book cover.

• [EA Forums] Editing Merfolks or Aliens in Create a Sim should no longer cause a game crash.

• [EA Forums] Resolved an issue causing nail asset (yfAcc_ManiNaturalShort_SolidDirt) to cause a metallic effect to the entire body.

📢 Upcoming Patch Update

A Patch Update is expected tomorrow, Thursday September 18th for the upcoming Adventure Awaits Expansion Pack. 

If you'd like to continue playing a modded game without dealing with the new patch, change your EA app settings to disable automatic updates and play in Offline Mode. This is also a great time to back up your save files! You can update your game later by turning on Online Mode, once you're ready to start updating your mods. 

This patch is likely to break a good amount of mods as it is an Expansion Pack Patch Update.

⚠️ Lot 51 Mods Update

Update/Clarification about the new Pack Selection Feature:

The new Pack Selection feature in-game will cause the game's tuning system to reload in the background after you change your settings. You MUST always restart your game after making changes even if the game doesn't tell you to. After restarting, Core Library will be in a safe state to run.

A future update to the library will notify you when it has detected a pack change and disable itself to prevent any issues.

Full Statement 

⚠️ Pack Selection Mod Compatibility Issue

The Pack Selection Tool added in this patch is NOT compatible with Lot 51 mods or any mods that depend on Core Library. They will behave unpredictably after changing your active packs.

Please use the old command line argument method in EA app instead to prevent game content from loading at all. James Turner has an online tool to create the argument setting for you with instructions to set it: https://jamesturner.yt/disablepacks

This issue most likely will not be resolved for the foreseeable future. This also includes all other script mods that are out there like XML Injector.

⚠️ Pack Selection Notice

When reenabling Disabled Packs, you may run into an issue where the Game Data will infinitely load not allowing you to reenable any Packs.

To fix this: 

• Navigate to Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4

  • Delete the file UserSettings.ini

• Launch the EA App

  • Select The Sims 4

  • Hit Manage

  • Hit Repair

Patch 1.116.202 is now live! 

This is an expansion patch, which by itself means many mods are going to break as sweeping changes are made to the code in preparation for the new Enchanted by Nature Expansion Pack's content. You should assume your entire Mods folder is broken and act accordingly. Additionally, this patch includes all the fixes from the recent Laundry List.

Dine Out Reloaded has been Updated:

• Fixed errors that prevent chefs and hosts from working in any restaurant.

• Fixed up Bartenders a bit to look more official. Their own career, better display name on hover (not "Host"). Not every notification is fixed, but it's a major step in the right direction for these previously poorly labeled employees.

This is an expansion patch, which by itself means many mods are going to break as sweeping changes are made to the code in preparation for the new pack's content. As the game's tattoo system has received an overhaul, it's entirely possible that CC tattoos will need to be fixed, too
