Welcome to my personal web.
I am the Director of the Monetary Policy and International Economy Department of the Bank of Spain, and member of the Monetary Policy Committee of the Eurosystem.
I have held other managerial positions within the Bank, ranging from international to Spanish economy, fiscal and forecasting issues. Before joining Banco de España I worked for the European Central Bank, the University Pablo de Olavide of Seville, the Research foundation centrA (Spanish regional public administration), the ERISTE-ICAE forecasting team, and the University Complutense of Madrid. I hold a Ph.D. in Economics (with distinction) from this latter University.
I have also been member of other European System of Central Banks groups: the International Relations Committee and the Working Group on Public Finances. I am currently Board Member of ICEI (Instituto Complutense de Estudios Internacionales).
My current analytical agenda focuses on assessing the impact of economic and financial fragmentation on the environment in which monetary policy operates, with particular attention to geopolitical and geoeconomic drivers, and the role of the public sector in this context. As a side topic, I'm also interested in the persistent dynamics of food inflation.
This agenda is driven by a commitment to addressing real-world challenges.
