Group inquiry is a powerful and collaborative exploration that brings individuals together to delve into shared themes, questions and challenges. It is an emergent process that harnesses the collective intelligence and diverse experiences within a group. The space created fosters a deep sense of connection and generates shared insights and discoveries.
The process of group inquiry begins with acknowledging the fact people hold individual, generational and collective trauma in the psyche and in the body. Trauma here refers to any unprocessed event or situation that now lives in the unconscious and has a negative effect on a person’s outlook, behavior, feelings, mood and relationships. Trauma can happen during those seemingly harmless developmental moments that we all go through. It also refers to shock traumas - accidents, abuse and oppressions - that were simply too much to handle at the time they happened.
Group inquiry is facilitated through guided meditation, intention setting and open, reflective dialogue. This creates a safe space where difficult feelings and negative thought patterns can be met unconditionally and explored in depth. The inquiry is not merely intellectual or philosophical. These meetings go much deeper, exploring the emotional and somatic (body-based) layers with regard to whatever has the group’s attention. It is a profound communal experience.
The process of group inquiry evolves over time; it is not a one-off event. Groups are usually facilitated for 6-month or 1-year intervals. The group size is capped at 7 participants which supports the cultivation of intimacy and allows ample time for every person to share and process. Groups can meet monthly, bi-weekly or weekly. One aim is to create a bond among the group members. This fosters a deeper understanding of the issues explored, and it nurtures a sense of connection and shared purpose.
