Grade: 4

Objective: Students will distinguish the difference between waves and tides. Students will also know when a high and low tide forms. As well as the different sizes of waves and their anatomy.

This PowerPoint goes over the two topics, waves and tides. By the end of this lesson, students will be able to distinguish high and low tides and the anatomy of a wave. Students will be able to practice the material through activities.

Activity

Tides and labeling diagram. Students will work in pairs to help each other fill out the diagram. This activity will guide students in differentiating Spring tides and Neap tides.

Activity 2

Students will be creating waves!!!

They will need water, oil, food coloring, and a mason jar (preferably a plastic water bottle)

The lesson of this activity is to show students how movements cause waves. Those movements cause energy that comes from winds or gravitational pulls.
