This Privacy Policy applies specifically to the Calories AI mobile application and supplements the general JanoGroup LLC Privacy Policy. By using Calories AI, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.
JanoGroup LLC develops and publishes mobile applications that may use artificial intelligence and other technologies to provide informational, educational, and utility-based features. Calories AI is a nutrition and calorie tracking app that uses AI to analyze food photos and help users monitor dietary intake.
Your privacy is important to us. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, how it is stored, and the choices available to you.
To personalize calorie and nutrition recommendations, the app allows you to voluntarily provide certain health-related information, including your body weight, height, age, biological sex, activity level, and health goal.
We use this information to calculate values such as your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR), Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE), and recommended daily calorie target.
Providing this information is entirely optional. You may use the app without providing it, but personalized recommendations will not be available.
All body metrics are stored locally on your device using on-device storage. This information is not transmitted to our servers or shared with third parties, except as described in Section 3.
When you log meals, the app stores nutritional information locally on your device. This may include the food item name, calories, macronutrients such as protein, carbohydrates, and fat, micronutrients when available such as fiber, sugar, and sodium, the number of servings, and the date and time of the entry.
This data is used solely to display daily and historical nutrition summaries, track progress against your personal goals, calculate remaining daily calorie and macronutrient budgets, and show recent progress history.
You can delete individual food entries or all food logs at any time within the app. Uninstalling the app removes locally stored data from your device.
When you use the food scan feature, the app accesses your device camera or photo library so you can capture or select a photo of your food.
That image is transmitted over an encrypted HTTPS connection to the OpenAI API operated by OpenAI, L.L.C., in order to identify the food item and estimate its nutritional content, such as calories, protein, carbohydrates, fat, fiber, sugar, and sodium.
JanoGroup LLC does not store or retain food photographs after the analysis request is completed. The nutritional results returned by the AI are stored locally on your device as described in Section 2.2.
Camera and photo library permissions are requested only when you initiate a food scan. You may deny these permissions, but doing so will disable the food scan feature.
Based on the body metrics you provide, the app may calculate and store locally on your device your BMR, TDEE, and recommended daily calorie target. These values are used only to personalize your in-app goals.
The app may store certain preferences locally on your device, including theme selection, daily nutrition goals, and recently logged food items for quick re-entry.
We may collect aggregated, non-personal usage data to improve app performance and reliability. This may include app launch frequency, session duration, feature usage patterns, crash reports, and performance diagnostics.
This information is anonymized and is not used to identify you or your health information.
Calories AI uses certain third-party services to operate app features.
We use OpenAI API for AI-based food image analysis. This involves sharing food photographs submitted by you for analysis.
We use RevenueCat for subscription and purchase management. We do not share health data with RevenueCat.
We may use Google Mobile Ads (AdMob) for in-app advertising. We do not share health data with AdMob for advertising purposes.
We may also rely on Google Play Services for app distribution and platform-related functionality. We do not share health data with Google Play Services for independent use.
No third party is permitted by us to use your health data for its own unrelated purposes. Food photographs sent to OpenAI are processed only to provide the requested analysis.
Health-related data collected by Calories AI is used solely for the following purposes:
Calculating personalized calorie and macronutrient goals based on the information you provide
Displaying daily and historical nutrition intake against your goals
Providing AI-powered food identification and nutritional estimates from food photographs
Enabling progress tracking over time
We do not use your health data for advertising targeting, profiling, sale to data brokers or advertisers, training AI models, or any purpose unrelated to the app’s core functionality described in this Privacy Policy.
Body metrics, food logs, nutrition data, calculated values, and app preferences are stored locally on your device until you delete them in the app or uninstall the app.
Food photographs used for AI analysis are sent to OpenAI for processing and are not stored by JanoGroup LLC after processing is completed.
JanoGroup LLC does not store your health data on its own servers.
We take reasonable steps to protect your information. Data sent to third-party services is transmitted using encrypted HTTPS connections. Information stored on your device remains within your device’s secure app sandbox. We also limit cloud exposure by sending food images only when needed for AI analysis.
The app does not require you to create an account, so we do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or password in order for you to use Calories AI.
No method of storage or transmission is completely secure. We encourage you to protect your device with a passcode, password, or biometric security.
Because app data is stored locally on your device, you can view and delete it within the app at any time, or remove it by uninstalling the app.
You may revoke camera or photo library permissions in your device settings. This will disable food scanning but will not affect manual food entry.
You are not required to provide body metrics. The app can still be used without them, although personalized recommendations will be limited.
Calories AI is intended for users age 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has used the app and provided data, please contact us at janogroupllc@gmail.com so we can address the issue.
Calories AI provides nutritional estimates, calorie recommendations, and other outputs for informational purposes only. The app does not provide medical advice and is not a substitute for advice from a qualified healthcare professional. We do not guarantee the accuracy of nutritional estimates or recommendations generated by the app.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected by updating the Effective Date at the top of this document. Continued use of the app after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the revised Privacy Policy. If we make material changes affecting health data handling, we may provide additional notice within the app.
