My name is Jannet Lopez Casas, I graduated from East Carolina University with a Bachelors of Science, Birth through Kindergarten Education degree. I am currently in my second year of graduate school at East Carolina University in the Masters of Counselor Education program. I am from a small town in Sampson County about 40 minutes southeast of Raleigh, NC. I am fluent in English and Spanish and I have used this ability to serve my community since I was in elementary school. I was translating for family and friends since I was very young and continue to do so, now on a larger scale, for the public school system and for the surrounding community alongside my teaching career.
I am yearning to impart on my students and my future clients that we exist in a diverse society and as such we should aspire to become accepting, adaptable, flexible citizens. I strive to address my students and one day my clients as holistically as possible.
I am also excited to be one of the first, if not the first, Hispanic educator in my school setting or counseling practice. There are not many Hispanic educators in my county presently and I have come to experience, first-hand, how the Hispanic community reacts positively to see one of their own on this end of the school system.
I was raised in the country, so I have a deep love for any activity outdoors. I grew up with horses and dogs, so I especially love animals. I am most relaxed around a good camp fire, traveling with loved ones to new places, or gathered with friends. I am the oldest of four siblings and have several wonderful nieces that keep my heart full of love and play!
