Qualifications and History

As the owner, I, Janet Spires, live on the premises. At one time, I had two care homes, and it did not work. I prefer to live with my residents. "We are family" my residents and me. Before becoming an owner and operator of a board and care home, I became a registered nurse.

I am now retired.

As an RN, I worked many years in nursing homes or convalescent homes and also hospitals where I rendered care for the acutely ill.

However, my license as a board and care home operator in the state of California does not permit me to provide nursing in this setting. Most of the requirements to meet the needs of the elderly do not require nursing. Most needs can be provided in the surrounding of an extended family similar to the one the elderly person is familiar with.

In this setting, we can provide care until the end of life at all levels, including especially hospice. Approximately two months ago, one of my residents passed away with his loved one at his bedside and our familiar caregivers with him.

Our residential care home is a fully equipped caregiving facility which provides care for up to 8 people. We offer different levels of care from those who are able to walk independently to those who are wheelchair bound to those who are bed bound. We also have a California-issued hospice waiver enabling the terminally ill to remain here. That is my preference. Our goal, together with the residents' families, significant other(s) etc., is to provide the best possible care we can offer.

Our care home has been fortunate to house at least five centenarians (100 years old). (Please read our referral section and article by Korin Miller re centenarians 1/21/16.

The grounds surrounding the care home are fenced in offering added security and safety. We also have a monitored fire alarm system.

If the preference of your parents) (we have had a few couples), family member, relatives or significant other(s) etc. is a setting with fewer people with similar needs as their own, please consider my community-based extended family home where every staff member knows your name.
