For this assignment, I explored how the usage of social media has impacted not only myself but society.
After taking the “AM I ADDICTED TO SOCIAL MEDIA?” QUIZ, I came to the realization that perhaps using it less can be something to work on.
My results stated as such, "You're fairly reliant on social media, but there are far worse culprits! Still, it's good to be reminded that UK adults spend an average of 8 hrs 41 mins on screens every day, and 4 hours of that on smartphone apps alone (mainly social media). That's about a third of each day checking apps. Do you need to rethink your social media habits and the amount of time you spend scrolling?".
And though I spend most of my time listening to music from Youtube, I think I can lower my five hours of screen time to even just by three hours.
In this website, I was able to gather different types of stats about how many times a day people say they access social media, to the demographic groups of each platform. Which for this specific stat it shows the most popular social media app used by percent of U.S adults. Which the results were not surprising as I assumed Youtube to be fairly popular. Though this was taken about a year ago I do expect changes on Tiktok being made for example.
Social Media has great opportunities, we are able to meet new communities, connect to long distance family and shop in the comfort of our homes. And though, in my opinion social media are some amazing tools we do have to be mindful that too much is not good for nobody. We have to be aware that not everyone who uses social media has right intentions.
I learned how to use social media and allow myself to be surround with positive feed as it can help not only my mental health but learning about new ideas.
