I have made this simple site to compliment my shop, as an added resource to viewing products and to enable you to take a closer look. I am a London based artist who originally trained as a painter at St Martins School of Art. I like to combine several glass disciplines in my practice, mixing kiln formed glass with painted pattern, using fused glass elements within leaded or copper foiled panels.
My work is mainly figurative and includes abstracted elements that allow me to explore pattern, surface and decoration. My pieces are detailed, intimate and decorative, often with a sense of 'otherworldliness'.
I combine my practice with part time teaching as a glass tutor at Lewisham Adult Education.
I have been learning the art of casting glass and found my own methods while experimenting with samples for my teaching practice in Adult Education.
This started with drawing that I translated on to plasticine. This produces a textured suface on plaster which enables glass to take on the texture when kiln formed. An example is the blue fish in the above right image.
I began experimenting with relief models to form a more three dimensional casting, called open casting.
For teaching purposes we started with simple forms such as acorns. See Glassworlds page for further open casting developments.
