In 2023 I was introduced to the wonderful work of @hicksjenkins who has a fabulous career working in theatre, design, painting and illustration. I admired his drawings on instagram and we tentatively approached a collaboration where I was able to interpret some of Clive's drawings into glass castings.
I was attracted to Clive's drawings, several of which, are part of a series being used for a creative collaboration Clive has with @sussexlustreware, a company in Sussex producing beautiful designs on lustre decorated pottery. Some of the drawings are shown below. This is an ongoing project that I look forward to pursuing. One of the joys of Instagram is the friendliness and support and surprise connections that can enrich one's practice.
A wonderful recent addition to Glassworlds is this magical film made collaboratively by the brilliant combined ingenuities of Clive @hicksjenkins and David @david.w.slack (also @davidwslack ) I'm completely enchanted to have Glassworlds figures featuring in it. The film is their homage to the short film 'Tocata for Toy Trains' by Charles and Ray Eames which they both love a great deal. Combining the glass with vintage toys pulling them along in a dreamy alpine landscape is genius. The Wait..... and what follows, totally delightful. Sound on for this for sure.... and full screen. Clive and David have many more collaborations in animation with Singing Cricket Productions @hicksjenkins @davidwslack Exquisite short clips celebrating the range of beautiful lustreware @sussex_lustreware and the fabulous PaperTheatre they made produced by @designfortoday and more....Pure joy to watch them all. This shows the translation from the drawing to a plasticine model.
The models in plasticine are the first part of the process to turn them in to glass.
A relief of the model has a wall built around it so plaster can be poured over to fill up the plasticine vessel.
This is a plaster cast ready to take the glass.
