PROJECT: Art Gallery App ROLE: Lead Designer DURATION: November 2021 (4 weeks)
Project Vision
The Art Gallery app was designed to transform how users discover and engage with art exhibitions.
Our vision was to create a user-centric platform that is intuitive, visually appealing, and inclusive. By proactively identifying potential user roadblocks and design challenges, we aimed to build an experience that not only meets but surpasses user expectations.
As a designer, making sure products are visually appealing is just as important as making sure they are cohesive. This means properly articulating the brand in the user experience, ensuring that real users' pain points are addressed on their journey. To ground the design in real user needs, the project began with a comprehensive research phase.
Conducted qualitative and quantitative research, including interviews, surveys, and contextual inquiries, to gather insights into user behavior, motivations, and pain points.
Performed a competitive audit to identify industry standards, best practices, and areas for differentiation.
Developed detailed personas and mapped user journeys to capture the diverse needs and expectations of potential users, providing a foundation for empathetic design.
Synthesized research findings into a clear problem statement, outlining key user needs and design goals.
With a strong understanding of the users, we moved into the design phase with a focus on clarity, usability, and visual appeal.
Defined the app's structure and navigation through card sorting exercises and user flow diagrams, ensuring an intuitive and seamless journey.
Engaged in ideation sessions and sketching to explore various design solutions and concepts, emphasizing simplicity and ease of use.
Created low-fidelity wireframes to establish layout and interactions, followed by high-fidelity prototypes that reflected the final visual and interactive design.
Developed a comprehensive design system encompassing typography, color schemes, iconography, and UI components to ensure consistency and scalability.
User feedback was crucial in guiding the design refinement and optimization process.
Conducted usability testing with diverse participants to assess task completion rates, identify usability issues, and gather qualitative feedback.
Ensured the design was inclusive by testing for accessibility, incorporating WCAG standards to accommodate users with various abilities.
Used insights from testing to iterate on the design, focusing on optimizing key user flows such as discovering exhibitions, scheduling visits, and managing the check-in process.
Finalizing the design involved meticulous attention to detail to align with the brand and evoke the right emotional response.
