You work in XYZ school teaching [a music-related job].
It is one week prior to your performance [PTO, Fall Concert, etc.].
Mr. TBA decided to pull students during your class time without talking with you ahead of time.
Your [star soloist, leaders, MC, etc.] are the ones he pulls out of your class.
Your schedule dictates that you see these students 1-2 times per week.
[think about your schedule]
How do you feel?
In the moment of the event.
[think through your initial "gut" reaction and identify your thoughts and, if needed, emotions]
What is your path to resolution?
What do you do?
What do WANT to do?
What should you do?
What shouldn't you do?
One of your students complained to their parents, "I never get a solo!"
Parents complained to the principal that YOU do not select their child as a soloist, even though their child repeatedly auditions.
The principal initially says to the parents that auditions are subjective and it's your decision.
Parents continue repeatedly contacting the principal who then gives them your email and says they should contact you about soloist decisions.
Background - YOU do not select soloists. Student submit video performing the solo and solos are selected by a set of three judges who come from the university (junior/senior music/music ed students).
