Cyber attacks can come in many shapes and forms some examples are Phishing, Identity theft, internet fraud, and viruses. Lets take a look at some of these examples and how to protect ourselves from some of these methods of cyber attacks.
This is when someone you don't know poses as someone close to you or an orginization that you trust to steal information. In this article it shows how people are phishing as the DMV trying to get sensitive information such as credit/debit cards, social security number, ETC. This is done by getting you to scan a QR code or click a link and pressuring you to click or scans by threatening with fines and court dates.
How to protect yourself from these? Ignore the message and check official websites if you're unsure of authentication. These messages will also have a sender ID with it. Know unpaid balances are officially sent out as well.
Identity fraud is when someone steals your identity and uses it to possibly commit crimes, purchase thigs, or claim things using your identity. This article speaks about how peoples identities were being used to claim money from hospice even though it wasn't needed therefore committing identity fraud.
The way we can protect ourselves from this is making sure we aren't trusting or clicking on links that we don't 100% trust. We can also protect ourselves by checking up on our accounts and checking monthly statements to make sure everything is in check.
