27/02/23 - 03/03/23: Initial Ideas
My team and I unanimously agreed on a post-apocalyptic setting for our game, and we were particularly drawn to the idea of incorporating the steampunk era as it was a theme relatively unexplored in the realm of first-person shooter games. The Last of Us served as a significant inspiration for the kind of game we aspired to create. Together, as a team consisting of David Cowling, Louis Hackney, Joshua Goldenburgh, Jake Farrell, and myself, we named our project "Gears of the Undead." We thought this was a fitting name as we combined the steampunk and apocalyptic theme together. Our vision was to develop a zombie survival-story-puzzle game, immersing players in an idealised Victorian-Steampunk version of London.
06/03/23 - 10/03/23: Primary research
As one of the 3D modellers in our group, my current focus is conducting research to gather reference images for the models I will be creating. This week, I plan to visit the Beamish museum, where I will have the opportunity to explore a meticulously recreated Victorian town. This visit will enable me to closely observe the architectural details, textures, and overall aesthetic of the era.
By immersing myself in the environment of the Victorian town, I aim to capture the essence and intricacies of the architecture, furniture, and other elements that will inform the design of my 3D models. I will take photographs and study the different structures, such as buildings, lamps, and other relevant objects, to ensure an accurate representation of the Victorian style is achieved in my creations.
13/03/23 - 17/03/23: Secondary research
During this week, I dedicated time to conducting online research and gathering various images related to weapons, buildings, and steampunk-themed features. These reference materials serve as valuable sources of inspiration and guidance for my own modeling work.
In particular, I explored the game called The Order: 1866, which takes place in the Victorian era and features steampunk-inspired weapons. Analyzing the designs and aesthetics of these weapons provided me with further insights and reference points to inform my own models.
20/03/23 - 24/03/23: Creating weapon Designs
As part of my creative process, I have begun creating basic models of weapons to explore different design possibilities and refine my ideas before designing the final weapon. These initial models serve as a starting point for experimentation and allow me to visualize how various elements and features can be incorporated into the design.
While working on these models, I will continuously refer to my research materials to enhance the aesthetic of the weapons. By studying reference images and other relevant resources, I hope to gain a deeper understanding of the steampunk aesthetic and Victorian-era design elements. This knowledge continues to inform my decision-making process when it comes to shaping the weapon's form, incorporating intricate details, and selecting appropriate materials.
27/03/23 - 31/03/23: Creating buildings Designs
Recognising the challenges of creating a large number of Victorian-styled buildings for our project, I took the initiative to assist the other 3D modeller in the group. Collaboratively, we worked together to design and develop a variety of Victorian-inspired buildings. By sharing our expertise and distributing the workload, we were able to effectively tackle the task at hand.
03/04/23 - 07/04/23: Begin development
This stage marks the start of the actual modelling process, where I will bring my ideas to life using various 3D modeling techniques. To ensure accuracy and capture the desired aesthetic, I will rely on the references I have gathered from online sources and my previous research.
By utilizing these references, I can incorporate specific design elements, textures, and intricate details that are characteristic of the steampunk genre and align with our project's vision. These references serve as a visual guide and source of inspiration throughout the modeling process, allowing me to create detailed and visually appealing models that reflect the intended style.
10/04/23 - 14/04/23: Feedback on models
During this phase, I gathered feedback and input from my peers in the class by sharing images of my models with them. I valued their perspectives, as they provided valuable insights and suggestions for potential improvements. By sharing my work with others, I aimed to gather constructive criticism and information on areas where I could enhance the quality and realism of my models. The feedback I received allowed me to identify any potential flaws or areas that required further attention and amend my designs accordingly.
17/04/23 - 21/04/23: Carry on making assets
After receiving the necessary feedback, I incorporated the suggested improvements and continued working on creating more models. The feedback I received provided valuable insights and allowed me to refine my designs, enhancing the overall quality and visual appeal of my models.
24/04/23 - 28/04/23: Texturing models
Upon completing the models, I proceeded to the next phase of the process, which involved texturing them. To maintain the steampunk theme, I selected and applied materials that matched the aesthetic. Copper and dark woods were the primary textures I utilized to get the desired steampunk atmosphere.
01/05/23 - 05/05/23: Feedback on textured models
I plan to share my finalized textured models with others to gather feedback and identify any potential areas that may require final touch-ups. By seeking input from others, I aim to gather valuable insights and suggestions that can further enhance the quality and refinement of my models.
08/05/23 - 12/05/23: Working on the Blog
This week, my focus will be on refining and making necessary adjustments to my Google Sites page. I will dedicate my time to enhancing the overall design and functionality of the website.
15/05/23 - 19/05/23: Final Product and Evaluation
I'll be completing the final product and evaluation.
